Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) was addressing the people at Mina: I am narrating to you a hadith that I have never narrated to you before. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Guarding the frontier for one day in the path of Allah is better than a thousand days elsewhere." (Then he asked:) Have I conveyed this message to you? The people said: Yes. So he said: O Allah, bear witness.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
