It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was sitting at the door of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) came out while we were all sitting, and he said: "Listen to me." We said: O Messenger of Allah! We are listening. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, after me there will be rulers; so do not affirm their lies and do not help them in their oppression, for whoever affirms their lies and helps them in their oppression will not be able to come to me at the Pool."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. Its shahid (supporting narration) is the well-known hadith that Imam al-Sha'bi narrated from Ka'b bin Ujrah, although there is a difference (among the narrators) about it.

Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi". Technical note / Defect ('illah): The chain is munqati' (broken) between Simak bin Harb and Abd Allah bin Khabbab. As for Simak's statement in al-Hakim's narration that "Abd Allah bin Khabbab informed them": if it means that he was among those whom Abd Allah informed and that he heard this hadith from him, then this is an error, as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Amali al-Mutlaqah" (p. 220); for Simak did not hear from Abd Allah bin Khabbab, as Imam Ahmad stated explicitly, because Abd Allah was killed by the Khawarij during the caliphate of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in 38 AH, and at that time Simak had either not yet been born or was too young to discern. Reference / Source: Ahmad (34/21074 and 45/27218) and Ibn Hibban (284) narrated it via two routes from Hatim bin Abi Saghirah, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In both of them the narration is by 'an'anah (using the word "from"); the wording of direct informing (ikhbar) is not present. 9/ (5702). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration has several supporting reports that make it sahih, among them the forthcoming hadiths of Ka'b bin Ujrah and Jabir bin Abd Allah. Reference / Source: For other hadiths, see the takhrij of the hadith of Ibn Umar in "Musnad Ahmad" (9/5702).
