It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware! Whoever kills a mu'ahad who has the protection (covenant of safety) of Allah and of His Messenger has violated the protection of Allah; he will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance reaches from a distance of seventy years (kharif)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
5/ 17. General principle: In the narration the verb ends with a sukun (jazm), even though "la" here is negative (not prohibitive); but in eloquent speech this is used for lightness. Examples of this are "la tadkhulu al-jannah" and the reading of Abu 'Amr bin al-'Ala' "wa ma yush'irkum" (with a sukun on the ra'), where the marfu' form has been made silent for lightness. Grading: The hadith is sahih, but this chain is da'if because of the weakness of Ma'di bin Sulayman. However, this hadith is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) through other sahih routes. Identification of names: Ibn 'Ajlan refers to "Muhammad bin 'Ajlan". Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (2687) and al-Tirmidhi (1403) narrated it from Muhammad bin Bashshar, from Ma'di bin Sulayman, with this same chain. Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi declared it "hasan sahih" and said that it is narrated from Abu Hurayrah through several routes. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Tabarani (8011), al-Isma'ili (3/ 725) and Hamzah al-Sahmi in "Tarikh Jurjan" (p. 323) narrated it by way of Muhammad bin Mihran al-Jammal. Details of the narration: In their versions the wording of the hadith is: "(The fragrance of Paradise is perceived) from a distance of a hundred years."
