Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2401

أخبرنا أبو أحمد بكر بن محمد الصَّيرفي بمَرْو، حدثنا إبراهيم بن هِلال، حدثنا علي بن الحَسن بن شقيق، حدثنا الحُسين بن واقِد، حدثني عبد الله بن بُريدة، عن أبيه: أنَّ رجلًا أتى النبيَّ ﷺ بحِمار وهو يمشي، فقال: اركَبْ يا رسول الله، فقال: "إنَّ صاحبَ الدابَّةِ أحقُّ بصَدْرِ دابَّتِه إلّا أن تجعلَه لي" قال: قد فَعَلْتُ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a donkey while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, please ride." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The owner of the animal has more right to ride on its front part (sadr), unless you give that place to me." He said: "I have done so (that is, I have given the place to you)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل الحسين بن واقد، فهو صدوق لا بأس به، وإبراهيم بن هلال حسن الحديث وهو متابَع.
Grading: On the strength of its supporting reports it is "sahih li-ghayrihi"; al-Husayn bin Waqid is saduq, and the hadith of Ibrahim bin Hilal is "hasan"; it also has corroborations.
وأخرجه أحمد 38/ (22992)، وابن حبان (4735) من طريق زيد بن الحباب، وأبو داود (2572)، والترمذي (2773) من طريق علي بن الحُسين بن واقد، كلاهما عن الحسين بن واقد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi narrated it through the routes of various sons and students of al-Husayn bin Waqid.
وقد رواه حبيب بن الشهيد عن عبد الله بن بريدة، فأرسله، أخرجه من طريقه ابن أبي شيبة 8/ 561، والبيهقي 5/ 258.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Habib bin al-Shahid narrated it from Abd Allah bin Buraydah as "mursal".
وله شواهد استوفينا ذكرها في "مسند أحمد" عند حديث بريدة هذا.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: We have mentioned all its supporting reports in detail in Musnad Ahmad under this hadith of Buraydah.
