حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الشَّيباني، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الوهاب العَبْدي. وحدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا إسحاق بن الحسن بن ميمون الحَرْبي؛ قالا: حدثنا سُريج بن النعمان الجَوهري، حدثنا أبو عَوَانة، عن الأعمش، عن مجاهد، عن ابن عمر، أنَّ النبي ﷺ قال: "من سألكُم بالله فأَعْطُوه، ومَن استعاذكُم باللهِ فأعيذُوه، ومَن آتى إليكُم معروفًا فكافِئوه، فإن لم تَجِدُوا فادعُوا له حتى تعلَمُوا أنكم كافأْتُموهُ، ومن استجارَكُم باللهِ فأجِيرُوه" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه، للخلاف الذي بين أصحاب الأعمش فيه (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever asks you by Allah, give to him; whoever seeks refuge with Allah, grant him refuge; whoever does you a kindness, repay him; and if you find nothing (with which to repay him), then pray for him (so much) that you are sure you have repaid him; and whoever asks you for protection in the name of Allah, grant him protection."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it, because there is a disagreement among the students of Imam al-A'mash in narrating it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. أبو عوانة: هو الوضاح بن عبد الله اليشكُري، والأعمش: هو سليمان بن مهران، ومجاهد: هو ابن جبر المكي.
Grading: The chain is "sahih" and all its narrators are thiqah imams.
وأخرجه أحمد 10/ (5743) عن سريج بن النعمان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it with this same chain.
وقد تقدَّم من طريق مسلم بن إبراهيم عن أبي عوانة برقم (1519/ 1)، ومن ثلاثة طرق أخرى عن الأعمش بالأرقام (1519) و (1519/ 2) و (1519/ 3).
