It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was brought to account and no good deed was found for him. He was wealthy and used to lend to people, and he would say to his servants: "Whoever you find well-off, collect from him, and whoever you find in hardship, be lenient with him, so that Allah may be lenient with me." So Allah Almighty said: "I am more entitled to be lenient with him."
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih" Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sufyan al-Thawri narrated it as "mawquf", but other narrators besides him reported it as "marfu'", and its being marfu' is also established from Abu Mas'ud through another route Note / Clarification: Al-A'mash is Sulayman bin Mihran, Abu Wa'il is Shaqiq bin Salamah, and Abu Mas'ud is the Companion of the Messenger, Uqbah bin Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (28/ 17083), Muslim (1561), al-Tirmidhi (1307) and Ibn Hibban (5047) narrated it as marfu' through the route of Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir from al-A'mash. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration will come later as marfu' too, through the route of Abd Allah bin Numayr from al-A'mash. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad, al-Bukhari (2391), Muslim (1560) and Ibn Majah (2420) narrated it as marfu' through the chain of Rib'i bin Hirash from Hudhayfah and Abu Mas'ud. (3236). Reference / Source: This narration will come again with the author (al-Hakim) through this same route at number (3236). Guidance: See the narration that comes after it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): If Imam al-Hakim meant the chain of al-A'mash from Abu Wa'il, then Imam Muslim has already narrated it, so there is no "istidrak" (addition) on him; and if he meant the hadith itself, then both al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated it, so it is not merely on their condition but already present in their books!!
