It is narrated from Ubadah bin al-Walid bin Ubadah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: My father and I went out seeking knowledge among this clan of the Ansar before they passed away. The first person we met was Sayyiduna Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). With him was a servant of his; he was wearing a cloak and a Ma'afiri garment, and his servant too was wearing a cloak and a Ma'afiri garment, and he had a bundle of written sheets with him. My father said to him: "I seem to see signs of anger on your face." He said: "Yes. So-and-so son of so-and-so, of Banu Haram, owed me some money. I went to his family and asked: 'Is he here?' They said: 'No.' Then a son of his came out, and I asked him: 'Where is your father?' He said: 'He heard your voice and went into my mother's canopied couch.' So I said: 'Come out, for I know where you are.' So he came out to me, and I said to him: 'What made you hide from me?' He said: 'By Allah, I will speak to you and not lie to you. By Allah, I feared that if I spoke to you I would lie to you, or if I made you a promise I would break it, while you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And by Allah, I was in hardship.' I said: 'By Allah?' He said: 'By Allah.' I said again: 'By Allah?' He said: 'By Allah.' Then he spread out the sheet and erased the debt, and said: 'If you find the means to pay, then pay; otherwise you are released from it.' I bear witness that these two eyes of mine saw" (and he placed his two fingers on his eyes) "and these two ears of mine heard" (and he placed his fingers in his ears) "and my heart retained" (and he pointed to the vein of his heart) "the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'Whoever grants respite to someone in hardship or remits (his debt), Allah will shade him in His shade.'"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. It has likewise been narrated in abridged form by Zayd bin Aslam, Rib'i bin Hirash and Hanzalah bin Qays, all of them from Abu al-Yasar.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: "Al-ma'afiri" refers to cloth made in a village called Ma'afir Linguistic explanation: "Al-burd" is a striped wrap that the Bedouins used to wear.
Note / Clarification: "Al-idbarah" means a bundle or packet.
Note / Clarification: "Al-Harami" is an ascription to the tribe of Banu Haram.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih" Note / Clarification: Abu al-Yasar is the Companion of the Messenger, Ka'b bin Amr al-Salami. Reference / Source: It is narrated in Sahih Muslim (3006) through the chain of Hatim, so al-Hakim's bringing it in the Mustadrak is an oversight on his part. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (5044) narrated it through the route of Amr bin Zurarah. Note / Clarification: "Al-arikah" (couch) is a bed or throne over which a curtain hangs. Note / Clarification: "Niyat al-qalb" is the thick vessel of the heart by which the heart is connected to the lungs.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Wahidi narrated it, but it is unlikely that Zayd bin Aslam met Abu al-Yasar, because there is a gap of 81 years between their deaths.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (24/ 15521) narrated it, and its chain is "sahih".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah (2419) narrated it; its chain is "hasan" in corroborations (mutaba'at).
