Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2237

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes a loan while intending in his heart to repay it, and then dies (before repaying), Allah Almighty will pardon him and will satisfy his creditor in whatever way He wills. And whoever takes a loan while not intending in his heart to repay it, and then dies, Allah Almighty will take retribution from him on behalf of his creditor on the Day of Resurrection."
