It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had two thick, coarse garments (cloaks) made in Qatar. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, these two garments of yours are very coarse and thick; you sweat in them and they become heavy on you. So-and-so has received some fine cloth from Syria; if only you would send word to him and take two garments from him on credit until ease (comes)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to him, and he said: "I know what Muhammad wants; he wants to take my cloth and then delay payment for it." The messenger came and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has lied. They know full well that I am the most God-fearing of them and the most faithful of them in fulfilling trusts."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Bukhari, but the two Shaykhs did not record it; and Shu'bah has also narrated it from Umarah bin Abi Hafsah in an abridged form.
