It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man, in order to sell his goods, swore by Allah that he had been offered a price for them which in reality he had not been offered. Then this verse was revealed: "Indeed, those who purchase a small price in exchange for the covenant of Allah and their oaths" [Surah Al Imran: 77].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. They agreed upon the narration of Abu Hurayrah, whereas this narration differs from it by the addition of the revelation of the verse.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Because of Ibrahim al-Saksaki this chain is hasan. Imam al-Bukhari narrated only this one hadith from him, and Ibn 'Adi says that he did not find any munkar (objectionable) narration of his. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it via the chain of Yazid bin Harun with these words: "He was given for it what no one else was given". Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari also narrated it in two places through Hushaym bin Bashir. Addition: (The narrator) also added: so that by means of it (the false oath) he may deceive a Muslim. Meaning of the hadith: This sentence has two meanings: one is that buyers offered a price for the item such as no one had offered before. (2088). Second meaning: According to al-Qastallani, the second meaning is that the seller (in order to deceive) showed an amount from his own pocket which in reality he had not paid. Research point: Its meanings are broad: either a lie was told to raise the price, or to cancel the deal. All these forms occur among merchants, and the hadith applies to all of them.
Correction: Imam al-Hakim's saying that it is not in al-Bukhari is wrong; rather, as we have made clear, Imam al-Bukhari himself narrated it.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated it; Muslim's wording is: "He swore a false oath by Allah that he had bought it for so much, so that the buyer would believe him".
