Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2166

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let no one envy a person who gathers wealth by unlawful means, for if he gives it in charity it will not be accepted from him, and whatever remains with him will be his provision for the journey to Hell."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Because of Hanash bin Qays this chain is
extremely weak. He is "matruk al-hadith" (one whose hadith is abandoned); that is why al-'Allamah al-Mundhiri, refuting al-Hakim's authentication, said: "How can al-Hakim call it sahih when Hanash is matruk?"
Reference / Source: Imam al-Sarraj and al-Bayhaqi narrated it via the chain of Ali bin 'Asim through Hanash al-Rahabi.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban cited it in "al-Majruhin" by way of Husayn bin Numayr, but in it the words are "from 'Ata' from Ibn 'Umar".
Sahih hadith: It is authentically established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that "Whoever gives in charity the equivalent of a date from lawful earnings, Allah accepts it with His right hand and makes it grow as large as a mountain". (al-Bukhari: 1410, Muslim: 1014)
Grading: He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever gathers unlawful wealth and then gives it in charity will have no reward; rather, the sin will remain upon him". This hadith is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and on the strength of supporting reports it is
hasan.
