Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1951

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (say this) when a blind man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained to him about the loss of his sight, and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have no guide (to lead me by the hand), and it has become very hard for me. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to the place of ablution and perform ablution, then pray two rak'ahs, then say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka wa atawajjahu ilayka bi-nabiyyika Muhammadin (peace and blessings be upon him) nabiyyir-rahmati ya Muhammad, inni atawajjahu bika ila rabbika, fa yujalli li 'an basari, Allahumma shaffi'hu fiyya, wa shaffi'ni fi nafsi' (O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), through you I turn to my Lord so that He may restore my sight. O Allah, accept his intercession on my behalf, and accept my supplication for my own self)." Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! We had not yet parted, nor had our conversation grown long, when that man came in (to the room), and it was as if he had never had any affliction at all.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. I placed the hadith of Awn bin Umarah first because our method is to bring the higher chain ('ali) first.
