It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came, made his mount kneel, tied it, and prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said the salam (to end the prayer), he went to his mount, untied it, mounted it and called out: O Allah, have mercy on me and on Muhammad ((peace and blessings be upon him)), and do not include anyone else in this mercy of ours. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the Companions): "What do you think: is he more astray, or his camel? Did you not hear what he said?" They said: Yes indeed. He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "He has restricted a very vast mercy. Indeed Allah created one hundred mercies, then He sent down one mercy by which all creatures, the jinn, humans and animals, show kindness to one another, while ninety-nine mercies are (kept) with Allah. Now tell me: is he more astray, or his camel?"

Grading: There is some weakness (lin) in this chain because of Abu Abd Allah (the narrator from Jundub). Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is variation here between the names "al-Jasri" and "al-Jushami". According to Ahmad and Abu Dawud he is "al-Jushami", who is majhul (unknown), while some called him "al-Jasri" (Humayri bin Bashir), who is thiqah. Important point: This hadith is authentically established with a different wording. Important point: This narration will come later at number (7822). Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration of Yazid bin Harun from al-Jurayri dates from after the latter's ikhtilat (deterioration of memory), so it will not be accepted when it conflicts with others. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The basis of the first part of this hadith exists in the narration of Abu Hurayrah in al-Bukhari (6010) and Musnad Ahmad. Note / Clarification: For the second part, see the previous discussion. Note / Clarification: The phrase "he is more astray" here means "more ignorant", because only someone ignorant of Allah's vast mercy, who tries to restrict what Allah has made vast, would say what that Bedouin said.
