Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 189

أخبرنا أحمد جعفر القَطيعي، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، حدثنا شُعبة، عن عَدِيِّ بن ثابت وعطاءِ بن السائب، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبّاس؛ رَفَعَه أحدهما إلى النبي ﷺ: "إِنَّ جبريل كان يَدُسُّ في فم فِرعَونَ الطينَ مَخافة أن يقول: لا إله إلَّا الله" (1).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), as a marfu' report, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Jibril (peace be upon him) was stuffing mud into the mouth of Pharaoh, fearing that he would say: La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)."

(1) صحيح موقوفًا على ابن عباس، والراجح أنَّ الذي رفعه منهما هو عدي بن ثابت، وستأتي روايته منفردًا برقم (3342) من طريق النضر بن شميل عن شعبة عنه، وقد نُقل عن شعبة أنه قال فيه: كان رفاعًا. وذكر المصنف في الموضع المشار إليه أن أكثر أصحاب شعبة أوقفوه على ابن عباس. ورواية شعبة عن عطاء بن السائب قبل اختلاطه، فالإسناد صحيح.
Grading: It is sahih as "mawquf" upon Ibn Abbas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Adi bin Thabit narrated it as "marfu'" (number 3342), while most of Shu'bah's students kept it mawquf.
Important point: Since Shu'bah heard from Ata' bin al-Sa'ib before his ikhtilat (deterioration of memory), this chain is sahih.

وأخرجه النسائي (1174)، وابن حبان (6215) من طريقين عن محمد بن جعفر، بهذا الإسناد. وانظر ما بعده.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (1174) and Ibn Hibban (6215) narrated it through two different routes from Muhammad bin Ja'far, with this same chain.

وسيأتي بنحوه برقم (7827) من طريق علي بن زيد عن يوسف بن مهران عن ابن عباس مرفوعًا. ¤ ¤ وعلي بن زيد -وهو ابن جُدعان- ضعيف.
Important point: A similar narration will come later at number (7827) as marfu' with the chain of Ali bin Zayd from Yusuf bin Mihran from Ibn Abbas.
Grading: Ali bin Zayd (Ibn Jud'an) is a weak narrator.
Grading: It is sahih as "mawquf" upon Ibn Abbas.
