Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1871

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever says these words: 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (Glorified is Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no strength to avoid sin nor power to do good except by the enabling of Allah), then Allah Almighty says: My servant has handed himself over to Me and has become obedient."
This hadith has a sahih chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The part between square brackets had dropped out of our manuscripts and "Ithaf al-Maharah", and it is necessary; it appears correctly in the source works. This Ibrahim bin Uthman is Ibn Khawasti al-Absi (by clientage), Abu Shaybah al-Kufi, and his shaykh is Uthman bin Abd Allah bin Mawhab.

Grading: Its chain is very weak because Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin Uthman is "matruk al-hadith".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it at greater length in "al-Awsat" (6745) from Muhammad bin Abi Zur'ah, from Hisham bin Ammar, with this chain, in these words: "Whoever says: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might nor power except with Allah, an angel folds his wing over them, and they do not return with anything until he takes them up to the Throne, and he passes by nothing but it invokes blessings upon them and upon the one who said them. Glorification is declaring Allah free of every evil. And whoever says: There is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, Allah says: My servant has submitted and surrendered."
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it with wording similar to al-Tabarani's in "Akhbar Asbahan" (1/150-151) by way of Ibn Bint Shurahbil Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman, from al-Walid bin Muslim.
