Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is very weak. Hafs bin Sulayman is "matruk al-hadith", and Abd al-Rahman bin Hammad (Ibn Imran bin Musa bin Talhah bin Ubayd Allah al-Talhi) is "munkar al-hadith", as Abu Hatim said.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban said in "al-Majruhin" (2/60): he narrates from Talhah bin Yahya a fabricated notebook (nuskhah); I do not know whether he fabricated it himself or it was switched on him; whichever it was, he cannot be used as proof.
Important point: For this reason Imam al-Dhahabi objected to the author's authentication of this chain, saying: Rather, it is not sahih; for Talhah is munkar al-hadith (as al-Bukhari said), Hafs bin Sulayman is wahi al-hadith (weak), and Abu Hatim said of Abd al-Rahman that he is munkar al-hadith.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Asma' wa al-Sifat" (59) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Shashi narrated it in his "Musnad" (10) from Muhammad bin Ali bin al-Warraq, al-Tabari in "al-Tafsir" (11/90) from Ali bin Isa al-Bazzar, and al-Tabarani in "al-Du'a" (1751), al-Bayhaqi (59) and al-Khatib in "al-Kifayah" (p. 226) by way of Ali bin Abd al-Aziz, all three from Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad al-Qurashi.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (950) narrated it from Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, and Ibn Hibban in "al-Majruhin" (2/60) and al-Khatib in "al-Kifayah" (pp. 225-226) by way of al-Fadl bin al-Hubab, both from Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad al-Qurashi, from Abd al-Rahman bin Hammad al-Talhi, from Talhah bin Yahya.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Both of them dropped Hafs bin Sulayman from the chain.
Variation in the chain: Musa bin Talhah narrated it, and there is disagreement over it from him: it is narrated from him from his father Talhah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); from him from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); and from him directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as "mursal".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Daraqutni said in "al-Ilal" that the "mursal" narration is more correct.
Note / Clarification: We say: al-Tabari (al-Tafsir 11/90) and al-Tabarani (al-Du'a 1752) narrated it by way of Sulayman bin Ayyub bin Sulayman bin Isa bin Musa bin Talhah bin Ubayd Allah, from his father, from his grandfather Musa bin Talhah, from his father Talhah bin Ubayd Allah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is a notebook (nuskhah) some of whose narrators are unknown and which contains some munkar reports; nevertheless Ya'qub bin Shaybah said (as in al-Mizzi's "al-Tuhfah" (5004)): Its hadiths are sahih in my view!
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement over it from Musa bin Talhah as to whether it is connected (muttasil) or mursal:
First group: Uthman bin Mawhab narrated it from Musa bin Talhah, with disagreement from him: al-Daylami narrated it in "Musnad al-Firdaws" (as in Ibn Hajar's "al-Ghara'ib al-Multaqatah" (1810)) by way of Sahl bin Uthman al-Washsha', from Abu Usamah, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Uthman bin Abd Allah bin Mawhab, from Musa bin Talhah, from his father, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as connected. Sahl bin Uthman al-Washsha' (al-Askari) is thiqah, but other trustworthy narrators contradicted him.
Second group: Among them Nasr bin Abd al-Rahman al-Awdi (in al-Tabari, al-Tafsir 11/90) and Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhriz (in Abu Ja'far al-Nahhas, "I'rab al-Qur'an" 1/194) narrated it from Abu Usamah, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Uthman bin Abd Allah bin Mawhab, from Musa bin Talhah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as "mursal".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi (in al-Tabari 11/90), al-Fadl bin Dukayn (in al-Tabarani, al-Du'a (1753)) and Muhammad bin Yusuf al-Firyabi (in al-Bayhaqi, al-Asma' wa al-Sifat (58)), all three, corroborated them, narrating from al-Thawri, from Uthman, from Musa as mursal.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Qays bin al-Rabi' also corroborated al-Thawri in narrating it as mursal, from Uthman from Musa (al-Tabarani, al-Du'a (1754)). Al-Tabarani said afterwards that Uthman bin Abd Allah bin Mawhab did not take it beyond Musa bin Talhah (i.e. kept it mursal).
Variation in the chain: Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin Uthman contradicted them (al-Thawri and Qays bin al-Rabi'), as will come under number (1871), narrating it from Uthman bin Abd Allah bin Mawhab, from Musa bin Talhah, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever says: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might nor power except with Allah, Allah says: My servant has submitted and surrendered"; and with narrators other than al-Hakim it is longer, including: "Glory be to Allah (in one narration: and glorification) is declaring Allah free of every evil."
Grading: We say that Abu Shaybah is "matruk al-hadith", so his contradiction carries no weight.
