It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Any people who sit in a gathering and then disperse from it without remembering Allah and without sending blessings upon their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that gathering will be a source of regret for them on the Day of Resurrection."
This narration does not create any hidden defect ('illah) or weakness in the hadith of Suhayl, because the addition (concerning sending blessings) made by Sulayman bin Bilal and Ibn Abi Hazim is accepted, and Sa'id al-Maqburi has also narrated it with a connected chain (musnad) from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: The chain is strong (qawi); there is some criticism of Mahbub bin Musa which lowers him below the level of sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement from al-A'mash over whether it is marfu' or mawquf: here Mahbub narrated it mawquf from al-Fazari from al-A'mash, but Shu'bah (in the narration of Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi from him, from al-A'mash) differed and narrated it marfu', and that is the preserved version, first because of Shu'bah's great standing, and also because Suhayl bin Abi Salih narrated it marfu' from his father (as in the previous hadith), and more than one narrator narrated it marfu' from Abu Hurayrah. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (16/9965) and Ibn Hibban (591, 592) narrated it by way of Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Shu'bah, marfu', adding at its end: "even if they enter Paradise because of the reward (they will still feel regret)".
