حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا هارون بن سليمان الأصبهاني، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَهْدي، حدثنا سفيان، عن منصورٍ والأعمش [عن ذَرٍّ] (3) عن يُسَيْع الحضرمي، عن النُّعمان بن بَشِير قال: سمعتُ النبي ﷺ يقول: "إنَّ الدُّعاء هو العِبادة" ثم قرأ: ﴿وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ﴾ [غافر: 60] (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. وقد رواه شعبة وجَرير عن منصور. وأما حديث شعبة:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Supplication is the very essence of worship." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And your Lord has said: Call upon Me; I will respond to you." [Surah Ghafir: 60]
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it. Shu'bah and Jarir have narrated it from Mansur.

(3) سقط من النسخ الخطية، واستدركناه من "تلخيص الذهبي" ومن "شعب الإيمان" للبيهقي (1070) حيث رواه عن المصنف نفسه بهذا الإسناد، وهو ثابت في سائر مصادر التخريج التي أوردت الحديث من طريق عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، وصنيع المصنف في الحديثين بعده يدل على ثبوته في هذا الموضع، والله أعلم. وذر هذا: هو ابن عبد الله بن زُرارة المُرْهِبي.
