Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1820

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: It was my night (by turn), in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was to stay with me. Then Wahb bin Zam'ah came to me, and with him a man from the family of Abu Umayyah, both wearing shirts. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Wahb: "O Abu Abdullah, have you performed Tawaf al-Ifadah?" He said: No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this shirt off yourself." The narrator says: So he took the shirt off over his head, and his companion also took off his shirt. The people said: Why is that, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, you have been granted the concession that when you have stoned the Jamrah, everything that was forbidden to you becomes lawful for you except women. But if evening comes upon you (i.e. the sun sets) before you perform tawaf of the House, you become muhrim (in the state of ihram) again, just as you were before stoning the Jamrah, until you perform tawaf."
Abu Ubaydah says: Umm Qays also narrated this hadith to me.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak. No one has either criticised or declared trustworthy Abu 'Ubaydah bin 'Abdullah bin Zam'ah; al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar called him "maqbul" (acceptable when corroborated).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is inconsistency (idtirab) in this hadith, as explained in Musnad Ahmad (44/26530).
Technical note: Abu al-Muthanna al-'Anbari is Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna, and Ibn Abi 'Adi is Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Sulami.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Dawud (1999) through Yahya bin Ma'in, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (26530) through Ibn Abi 'Adi.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (26587) with the chain Ibrahim bin Sa'd from Ibn Ishaq, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice before evening.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (26588) through Khalid, the freed slave of al-Zubayr bin Nawfal, but Khalid is a "majhul" (unknown) narrator.

Important point: That is, it is connected with the previous chain itself.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The hadith of Umm Qays was not in our present manuscripts; perhaps the author left a space to write it later and forgot.
Important point / Summary: al-Bayhaqi (5/137) transmitted it from the author with this same chain, in which Umm Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that 'Ukkashah bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with him) went out on the Day of Sacrifice wearing a shirt and returned at night holding his shirt in his hand, because, due to delaying the Tawaf al-Ifadah, they had returned to a state (of restriction) like ihram.
