It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a journey and saw his family, he would say this supplication: 'Awban awban, ila rabbina tawban, la yughadiru 'alayna hawban' ((We are) returning, returning, to our Lord in repentance, a repentance that leaves no sin upon us).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, because Imam Bukhari used Ikrimah as evidence and Imam Muslim used Simak bin Harb as evidence, but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: In manuscript (z) this word is "hawban"; according to al-Bayhaqi the full supplication is: "Tawban awban, wa ila rabbina awban, la yughadiru 'alayna hawban" (turning in repentance, returning to our Lord, may He leave no sin upon us).
Grading: In sha' Allah this chain is "hasan". al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar also declared it hasan. Technical note: Za'idah is Ibn Qudamah. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban (2716) with the chain Abu al-Ahwas from Simak, that these words are to be said when entering one's home on returning from a journey. Note / Clarification: According to al-Nawawi, "tawban" means asking for repentance, "awban" means returning, "la yughadiru" means does not leave, and "hawban" means sin.
