It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Simplicity and plainness of dress (out of detachment from the world) are part of faith; simplicity is part of faith."
Imam Muslim used Salih bin Abi Salih al-Samman as evidence.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" on account of Abd Allah bin Abi Umamah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The statement "Salih bin Abi Salih" here is an error (wahm) of some of its narrators. The correct view is that he is "Salih bin Kaysan", as it appears in Ahmad's "al-Musnad" and "al-Zuhd" (30). He is not "Salih bin Abi Salih al-Samman" as the author (al-Hakim) said later; this is an oversight on his (al-Hakim's) part, may Allah have mercy on him. The two Shaykhs relied on Salih bin Kaysan, whereas neither of them narrated anything from Abd Allah bin Abi Umamah. Reference / Source: This hadith is in "Musnad Ahmad" 39/ (24009/ 58), Technical note / Defect ('illah): and in it Ibn Abi Umamah explicitly states that he heard it from his father. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (4118) narrated it by way of Usamah bin Zayd, from Abd Allah bin Abi Umamah. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4161) narrated it by way of Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Abd Allah bin Abi Umamah, from Abd Allah bin Ka'b bin Malik, from Abu Umamah. See the full discussion of this narration of Ibn Ishaq in "Musnad Ahmad". 4/ 193. Note / Clarification: In the words of the hadith "al-badhadhah min al-iman", "al-badhadhah" means: a shabby appearance and abandoning pretension and display in clothing. That is, it is among the marks of the people of faith, because they possess abstinence (zuhd), humility and the abandonment of arrogance, just as this was the way of the Prophets (peace be upon them) before them. Imam al-Tahawi said this in "Sharh al-Mushkil" 4/ 193.
