Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1752

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her concerning her Umrah: "The reward of your Umrah is in proportion to your spending."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: In manuscripts (S) and ('A) the name has become "Muslim", whereas the author has here attributed him to his grandfather, i.e. he is 'Ali bin al-Hasan bin Salm al-Asbahani, who is mentioned in 'Siyar A'lam al-Nubala''.

Technical note: We have not found a biography of al-Hasan bin Idris al-Hulwani with this nisbah. The sources are inconsistent about his name, in some it is written al-Hasan and in some al-Husayn, which is why al-Haythami said: I have not seen anyone mention him.
Scholarly response: (The editors say that) we have found two narrators of this name in this generation. The first is al-Hasan bin Idris al-'Askari, about whom Ibn Marduyah mentioned that he came to Isfahan and used to narrate hadiths from his memory and would make mistakes.
Technical note: The second narrator is al-Husayn bin Idris al-Harawi al-Hafiz, an author of works, whom al-Daraqutni, Ibn Hibban and al-Dhahabi declared "thiqah". In some sources his name too has been written as "al-Hasan".
Important point / Summary: If this al-Hulwani is the same as 'al-'Askari', his rank is "hasan"; if he is 'al-Harawi', his hadith is "sahih"; and if he is someone else, he is "mastur al-hal" (of undisclosed status). In any case, he has been corroborated in this hadith.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, although this chain is weak because of Mihran bin Abi 'Umar; but both Mihran and al-Hasan bin Idris have been corroborated, and all the remaining narrators are thiqah.
Technical note: Sufyan is al-Thawri, and Mansur is Ibn al-Mu'tamir.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad, al-Bukhari (1787) and Muslim (1211) narrated it through the route of 'Abdullah bin 'Awn from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration has already passed earlier through the route of Ibn 'Awn from al-Qasim from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and both of these routes are preserved (established) from Ibn 'Awn.
