أخبرنا محمد بن علي الشَّيباني بالكوفة، حدثنا أحمد بن حازم بن أبي غَرَزة، حدثنا قَبِيصة، حدثنا سفيان. وأخبرنا محمد بن أحمد المحبوبي، حدثنا أحمد بن سَيَّار، حدثنا محمد بن كثير، أخبرنا سفيان، عن محمد بن عَجْلان، عن المَقبُري، عن أبي هريرة قال: أَمَرَ النبيُّ ﷺ بالصدقة، فقال رجل: يا رسول الله، عندي دينار، قال: "تصدَّقْ به على نفسك" قال: عندي آخر، قال: "تصدَّقْ به على وَلَدِك" قال: عندي آخر، قال: "تصدَّقْ به على زَوجِك" - أو قال: "على زوجتك" - قال: عندي آخر، قال: "تصدَّقْ به على خادِمِك" قال: عندي آخر، قال: "أنت أبصَرُ" (1). صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered charity, and a man said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a dinar." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend it on yourself." He said: "I have another." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend it on your child." He said: "I have another." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend it on your wife." He said: "I have another." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend it on your servant." He said: "I have another." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You know best yourself (where to spend it)."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده قوي من أجل محمد بن عجلان، فهو صدوق لا بأس به. قبيصة: هو ابن عقبة، وسفيان: هو الثوري، والمقبري: هو سعيد بن أبي سعيد.
Grading: The chain is strong (qawi) on account of Muhammad bin 'Ajlan, because he is saduq (truthful).
Criticism of a narrator: Qabisah is Ibn 'Uqbah, Sufyan is al-Thawri, and al-Maqburi is Sa'id bin Abi Sa'id.
وأخرجه أبو داود (1691) عن محمد بن كثير، بهذا الإسناد.

وأخرج أحمد 16/ (10119) و (10174)، ومسلم (995)، والنسائي (9139) من طريق مزاحم بن زفر، عن مجاهد، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "دينار أنفقته في سبيل الله، ودينار أنفقته في رقبة، ودينار تصدقت به على مسكين، ودينار أنفقته على أهلك، أعظمها أجرًا الذي أنفقته على أهلك".
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Muslim (995) and al-Nasa'i narrated via the chain of Mujahid from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A dinar you spend in the path of Allah, a dinar you spend on freeing a slave, a dinar you give in charity to a poor person, and a dinar you spend on your family: the greatest of them in reward is the one you spend on your family."
