It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the charity of Ramadan (Sadaqat al-Fitr): that one sa' of dates, or one sa' of barley, or one sa' of wheat be paid on behalf of every person.
This hadith is sahih, and it also has a sahih supporting narration (shahid).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Apart from the words "a sa' of wheat", the rest of the hadith is sahih li-ghayrihi. Criticism of a narrator: Sufyan bin al-Husayn, despite being thiqah, is weak in the narrations of al-Zuhri. About Bakr bin al-Aswad, al-Daraqutni said that he is not strong, and al-Dhahabi said that he is not a proof (hujjah). (1665). Variation in the chain: There is disagreement about whether it is connected or mursal, and al-Daraqutni preferred the "mursal" version. Defect / Technical note: Bakr bin al-Aswad erred in saying the words "sa'an min qamh" (a sa' of wheat), whereas the preserved words from al-Zuhri are "two mudds of wheat" (half a sa'). Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (2090) narrated it through Ya'qub bin Ishaq al-Qalusi with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad (13/ 7724) narrated through Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, as "mawquf" on Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that half a sa' of wheat is to be given. Grading: Ma'mar says: It reached me that al-Zuhri used to narrate it as marfu' up to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); but this is weak because it is a "balagh" (an unsourced "it reached me" report). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: There are supporting reports for some parts of this hadith in the other sahih hadiths of this chapter.
