It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), people used to give Sadaqat al-Fitr as one sa' of barley, or one sa' of dates, or one sa' of hulless barley (sult), or one sa' of raisins (dried grapes).
This hadith is sahih; Abdul Aziz bin Abi Rawwad is trustworthy and devoted to worship, and his father's name is Ayman; but the two Shaykhs did not record it with these words.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, but the mention of "sult" and raisins (zabib) in this narration is an error (wahm). Defect / Technical note: According to Imam Muslim and Ibn Abd al-Barr, Abd al-Aziz bin Abi Rawwad is alone in mentioning these words, whereas the other students of Nafi' did not mention them. However, Musa bin Uqbah corroborated him in mentioning sult (without raisins) in Ibn Khuzaymah (2416). Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1614) and al-Nasa'i (2307) narrated it through Husayn bin Ali al-Ju'fi. According to Abu Dawud, in the time of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when wheat became plentiful, he fixed half a sa' of wheat in place of one sa'. Important point: Ibn Abd al-Barr says that according to Ibn Uyaynah this decision was that of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Ibn Uyaynah's statement is more reliable because he is the greater hafiz. Note / Clarification: See the narration after it.
Note / Clarification: The word "hadith" is present only in manuscript (A).
