إِذَا كَانَ أَجَلُ أَحَدٍ بِأَرْضٍ أَثْبَتَ اللَّهُ لَهُ إِلَيْهَا حَاجَةً
When a person's death is decreed in a land, Allah gives him a need to go there

حدَّثناه أبو سعيد أحمد بن يعقوب الثَّقفي، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن سليمان الحضرمي، حدثنا موسى بن محمد بن حَيَّان، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَهْدي، عن هُشَيم، عن إسماعيل، عن قيس، عن عبد الله بن مسعود، عن النبي ﷺ قال: "إذا كان أجَلُ أحدِكم بأرض، جُعِلَت له إليها حاجَةٌ فيُوفِّيه الله بها، فتقول الأرض يوم القيامة: ربِّ هذا ما استَودَعتَنى" (2). فقد أسند هذا الحديث ثلاثةٌ من الثِّقات عن إسماعيل، ووَقَفَه (3) عنه سفيان بن عيينة، فنحن على ما شَرَطْنا في إخراج الزيادة من الثِّقة في الوصل والسَّنَد. ثم لهذا الحديث شواهد على شرط الشيخين، فمنها:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the appointed time of death of one of you is (decreed) in a particular land, some need is created for him there, and by means of it Allah completes (his term) there. Then on the Day of Resurrection the land will say: 'O my Lord! This is Your trust that You handed over to me.'"
Three trustworthy narrators narrated this hadith from Isma'il with a connected chain (musnad), whereas Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated it as the saying of the Companion (mawquf); and our condition is to accept an addition from a trustworthy narrator in connecting the chain and in the chain itself. This hadith also has supporting narrations on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

وأخرجه الطبراني (10403) عن محمد بن عبد الله الحضرمي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it (10403) through the chain of Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Hadrami.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts and the printed edition have "wa wafaqahu" here, whereas the correct word is the one we have established in the text.
فقد أخرج رواية سفيان هذه الموقوفة عبدُ الرزاق في "تفسيره" 1/ 215، وسعيد بن منصور ¤ ¤ في قسم التفسير من "سننه" (894) من طريقه عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، عن قيس، عن ابن مسعود قوله.
Reference / Source: This mawquf narration of Sufyan al-Thawri was transmitted by Abd al-Razzaq in his "Tafsir" (1/215) and by Sa'id bin Mansur in his "Sunan" (894), through the route of Isma'il bin Abi Khalid from Qays from Ibn Mas'ud, as his own statement (mawquf).
Grading: Like the previous narrations this is also sahih.
