حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق الفقيه، أخبرنا أحمد بن إبراهيم بن مِلْحان، حدثنا عَمرو بن خالد الحرَّاني، حدثنا زهير، عن أبي إسحاق، عن أبي الأحْوَص، عن عبد الله، أنَّ النبيَّ ﷺ قال لِقومٍ يتخلفون عن الجمعة: "لقد هَمَمْتُ أن آمُرَ رجلًا يصلي بالناس، ثم أُحرِّقَ على قومٍ يتخلفون عن الجمعة بُيوتَهم" (3). وهكذا رواه أبو داود الطيالسي عن زهير (4)، وهو صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه هكذا، إنما خرَّجاه بذكر العَتَمة وسائر الصلوات (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about people who stay away from the Friday prayer: "I was indeed about to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then burn down the houses of those people who stay away from the Friday prayer."
Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi also narrated it in the same way from Zuhayr, and this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording; they recorded it with mention of the Isha prayer and the other prayers.

وأخرجه أحمد 6/ (3816) و 7/ (4007)، ومسلم (652) من طرق عن زهير بن معاوية، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (6/3816) and Muslim (652) narrated it through the chain of Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, by this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 6/ (3743) من طريق إسرائيل بن يونس، و 7/ (4295) و (4297) من طريق معمر بن راشد، كلاهما عن أبي إسحاق السبيعي، به. إلّا أنَّ رواية إسرائيل مطلقة لم يقيدها بالجمعة، ورغم أنَّ رواية إسرائيل عن جده أبي إسحاق في غاية الإتقان لملازمته إياه، إلّا أنَّ زهيرًا ومعمرًا قد تابعهما غير واحد على ذكر الجمعة كسفيان الثوري والرحيل بن معاوية أخي زهير، انظر تفصيل ذلك في تعليقنا على "مسند أحمد" (3743)، وانظر أحاديث الباب هناك.
Reference / Source: Isra'il bin Yunus and Ma'mar bin Rashid also narrated it from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, but in Isra'il's narration there is no restriction to Jumu'ah, whereas Zuhayr and Ma'mar are corroborated by Sufyan al-Thawri and others. (For details see Musnad Ahmad 3743.)

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) Rather, Imam Muslim narrated it with mention of "Jumu'ah" itself through the chain of Zuhayr, whereas mention of Isha and other prayers is in the narration of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bukhari and Muslim.
