Hadith 3191
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the interpretation of the Quranic verse: « ﴿لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ﴾ [القيامة : 16]» "Do not move your tongue quickly," that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to feel some difficulty at the time of the revelation of the divine message, and in order to preserve the revelation, he would keep moving his lips. Saying this, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to his student Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him), "I will show you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to move his lips," and then his student Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) imitated this in front of his own student. In any case, upon this, the following verse was revealed: «﴿لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ o إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ o فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ o ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ﴾ [القيامة : 16-19]» "Do not move your tongue quickly; it is Our responsibility to gather this Quran in your chest and to make you recite it. So when We recite it, listen to it attentively and remain silent; then its explanation is also Our responsibility." After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite it in the same way after Jibreel (peace be upon him) had departed, as Jibreel (peace be upon him) had recited it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I once spent the night at the house of my maternal aunt, Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Maymunah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up during the night, relieved himself, then came and washed his face and hands and lay down again. After some of the night had passed, he woke up again, came to the water-skin, untied its string, and performed ablution thoroughly. Then he stood up to pray. I waited for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he would not see me. Then I stood up and did what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had done, and I came and stood on his left side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took me by the ear and turned me, so I ended up on his right side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to pray. The total number of rak‘ahs of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer was thirteen, including the two sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lay down and slept until the sound of his snoring could be heard. After a short while, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him of the prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to lead the prayer and did not perform fresh ablution. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in his prayer or prostration: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا وَمِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا» “O Allah! Place light in my heart, in my ears, in my eyes, on my right, on my left, in front of me, behind me, above me, and beneath me, and make me all light.”
Hadith 3195
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a woman took her child's hand, brought him out from her carriage, and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Can he perform Hajj?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes! And you will have the reward for it."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

Yazid bin Hurmaz says: Once Najdah bin Amir wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him some questions. When Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was reading his letter and writing a reply, I was present there . . . . . Then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith and at the end said: You have asked whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ever killed any child of the polytheists? So remember! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not kill any of their children, and you should not kill anyone either. However, if you come to know about a child in the same way as Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) came to know about that child whom he killed, then that is a different matter (and this is not possible for you).

Yazid bin Asam says that once the mention of the lizard (dabb) was made in the presence of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). A man present in his gathering said that it was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he neither declared it lawful nor unlawful. Upon this, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "You have spoken incorrectly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent only to determine what is lawful and unlawful." Then he said: "In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was once at the house of Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). There, Sayyidah Umm Hufayd (may Allah be pleased with her) had come to meet her sister Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she had brought food with her in which there was the meat of the lizard. In the evening, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, and it was presented to him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to eat it, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This is the meat of the lizard.' Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand, but the people present there ate it. If it had been unlawful, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have forbidden them. However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'It is not found in our land, so we avoid it.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Will you really believe?" They said: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated. Jibreel (peace be upon him) appeared and said: "Your Lord sends you greetings of peace and says: 'If you wish, I will turn the mountain of Safa into gold for them, but after that, if any of them disbelieves, I will punish him with a punishment that I have not given to anyone among all the people of the world. And if you wish, I will open for them the door of repentance and mercy.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, open for them the door of repentance and mercy."
