Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide him, and whomever He lets go astray, none can guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, and I also bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Allah's servant and His Messenger."

Yazid bin Hurmaz says that once Najdah bin Amir wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asking about the ruling on killing children, and also whether women used to participate in jihad along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would assign them a share. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) had me write the reply to this letter. In the reply, he wrote: You have asked me whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ever killed any child among the polytheists. So remember! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never killed any of their children, and you should not kill anyone either. However, if you come to know about a child in the same way as Khidr (peace be upon him) came to know about the child whom he killed, then that is a different matter (and this is not possible for you). You also asked whether, if a woman or a slave participated in battle, would their share in the spoils of war be fixed? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fix any share for them, but he would certainly give them something from the spoils of war.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) bear witness regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (the use of) vessels called Duba’, Hantam, Muzaffat, and Naqir. Then he recited this verse: «﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا﴾ [الحشر : 7]» "Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I stayed the night at the house of my maternal aunt, Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her after performing the Isha prayer, as it was her turn that night. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak‘ahs, then lay down. After a while, he said: "Has the child gone to sleep?" although I was listening. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying on the prayer mat: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا وَفِي لِسَانِي نُورًا وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا» "O Allah! It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyidah Dubaa‘ah bint Zubair bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I am a heavy woman and intend to perform Hajj. (How do you command me to enter into Ihram?) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you enter into Ihram, stipulate the condition that I will become free from Ihram wherever, O Allah, You restrain me; for you are permitted to do so."

Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw a man who, while prostrating, had spread his arms on the ground. Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) when he was ill. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was wearing a silk cloak of istabraq at that time, and in front of him was a brazier in which there were some images. Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu al-Abbas! What is this garment? He asked: What do you mean? He replied: This is istabraq (silk). He said: By Allah! I did not realize that, and I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing it due to pride and oppression, and all praise is due to Allah, we are not like that. Then Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What about these images in the brazier? He said: As you can see, we have burned them in the fire.

Sayyidah Juwayriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! After you left, I have been sitting here continuously. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from the plain of Arafat, people began to hasten their mounts. At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man announced: "O people! Racing camels and horses is not an act of virtue, so make calmness obligatory upon yourselves." Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from there, I did not see any mount raising its hands and running swiftly.
