Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them)

1722 hadith
Hadith 2236
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that before the pulpit was made, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon leaning against the trunk of a date-palm tree. When the pulpit was made and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved towards the pulpit, that trunk began to weep out of grief at being separated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced it to his chest and calmed it, so it became tranquil. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I had not calmed it, it would have continued to weep until the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with them) that once I and some young men of the Quraysh went to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) and asked him, "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite (Qur'an) aloud in Zuhr and Asr prayers?" He replied, "No." We asked, "Perhaps he used to recite quietly?" He said, "Be silent! That is even worse. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was a servant under command. By Allah! Whatever message he was sent with, he conveyed it. He did not tell us anything specifically, leaving out the people, except for three things: First, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specifically commanded us to complete the ablution; second, that we should not eat charity; and third, that we should not make a donkey mount a mare."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned to him the five prayers and did not add anything to them. Then he mentioned zakat, fasting, and Hajj, and then he explained the things that Allah has made unlawful for him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, Dhamam said, “I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah. I will, insha’Allah, act according to what you have commanded me, and I will not add to it nor subtract from it on my own.” After saying this, he left. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been granted five such distinctions which were not given to anyone before me, and I do not say this out of pride. I have been sent to every red and black (i.e., all mankind), so whoever of red or black complexion joins my Ummah will be counted among them, and the entire earth has been made a mosque for me." Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that one day after Asr, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) gave us a sermon until the sun set and the stars began to appear. People started calling out, "Prayer, prayer!" At that time, there was also a man from Banu Tamim among the people, and he began to loudly say, "Prayer, prayer!" This made Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) angry, and he said: "Do you want to teach me the Sunnah? I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combine (Salat) between Dhuhr and Asr, and between Maghrib and Isha, a 'combining in form' (jam' suwari)." The narrator of the hadith, Abdullah, says that I felt some doubt about this in my heart, so I met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about this issue, and he also agreed with it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the verse of debt was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first to deny something out of forgetfulness and unawareness was Adam (peace be upon him), and its detail is as follows: When Allah Almighty created Adam (peace be upon him), after some time He passed His hand over his back and brought forth all his progeny that would exist until the Day of Resurrection, and began to present his offspring before him. Adam (peace be upon him) saw among them a man whose complexion was radiant. He asked: 'O Lord! Who is this?' Allah said: 'This is your son Dawud (David).' He asked: 'O Lord! How long is his lifespan?' Allah said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O Lord! Increase his lifespan.' Allah said: 'That is not possible, but it is possible that I reduce some years from your lifespan and add them to his.' The lifespan of Adam (peace be upon him) was one thousand years. Allah took forty years from it and added forty years to the lifespan of Dawud (peace be upon him), and wrote this matter down and made the angels witnesses to it. When the time of Adam’s (peace be upon him) death approached and the angels came to seize his soul, Adam (peace be upon him) said: 'Forty years of my life still remain.' He was told: 'You have already given those forty years to your son Dawud.' But he said: 'I did not do so.' Thereupon Allah presented that written document before him and the angels testified to it."

Hadith 2271
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not intentionally recite the Qur'an to the jinn, nor did he see them. In fact, what happened was that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went with some of his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to the famous market called 'Ukaz. By that time, a barrier had been placed between the devils and the heavenly news, and flaming meteors began to be thrown at them. The devils, distressed, returned to their people, and their people asked them, "What has happened to you?" They replied, "Barriers have been placed between us and the heavenly news, and flaming meteors are being thrown at us." Their people said, "Surely something new has happened. Spread out to the east and west and find out what is the thing because of which a barrier has been placed between you and the heavenly news." So they spread out to the east and west to find out the cause. Those among them who went towards Tihamah, on their return, passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who at that time, with the intention of going to the market of 'Ukaz, was leading his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in the Fajr prayer in a garden. When the Qur'an reached their ears, they began to listen attentively and said, "This is the very thing that has come between you and the heavenly news." Then, when they returned to their people, they said, "O our people! We have heard a wondrous Qur'an which guides to righteousness and guidance, and we have believed in it." Upon this, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: «﴿قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ . . .﴾ [الجن : 1]» Thus, only the revelation regarding the statement of the jinn was sent down to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Dhu’l-Hulaifa as the miqat for the people of Madinah, Juhfa for the people of Sham, Yalamlam for the people of Yemen, and Qarn for the people of Najd, and said: “These places are miqat for the residents of these areas as well as for those who pass through them—who intend to perform Hajj or Umrah. And those who live beyond these places should assume ihram from where they begin their journey, even the people of Makkah should assume ihram from where they begin.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that people used to think that performing Umrah during the sacred months was the greatest sin committed on earth, and they would also make the month of Muharram into the month of Safar, and they used to say that when the back of the she-camel becomes healthy, the footprints of the pilgrims have disappeared, and the month of Safar has ended, then it becomes lawful for those who want to perform Umrah to do so. Coincidentally, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Makkah with his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in the state of Ihram for Hajj, it was the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to "make this Ihram the Ihram of Umrah." The people considered this a very great matter and said: O Messenger of Allah! What kind of becoming lawful is this? He said: "Completely lawful."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling anything forward before taking possession of it. The narrator asked about its meaning, so he replied that it means that dirhams are exchanged for dirhams and the grain is deferred.
