It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was at al-Ji'ranah. The man was wearing a cloak (jubbah) and on it was a trace of khaluq (perfume) - Hammam said: or perhaps he said: a trace of yellow - and he said: "What do you command me to do in my Umrah?" He said: And revelation was sent down upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he was covered with a cloth. He said: And Ya'la used to say: I wished that I could see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time revelation was coming down upon him. So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "Would you like to look at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while revelation has come down upon him?" He said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) lifted the edge of the cloth, and I looked at him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was making a heavy snoring sound (heavy breathing). Hammam said: I think the narrator also said that this snoring was like that of a young camel. Then, when that state left him (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Where is the one who asked about Umrah? Take off the cloak and wash off from yourself" - the narrator sometimes said "the trace of khaluq" and sometimes said "the trace of yellow"; Hammam was in doubt about it - "and do in your Umrah what you would do in your Hajj."

Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "I wish that I could see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time revelation is coming down upon him." He said: Then we were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped at a place, and a Bedouin came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a cloak (jubbah) smeared with saffron. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered ihram for Umrah, and the people are laughing at me, so what should I do?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him no answer until Allah Almighty sent down revelation upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) signalled to me with his hand, so I put my head into the tent, and I saw that the eyes and forehead of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were reddened. Then, when that state left him (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Where is the one who asked about Umrah?" The man said: "O Messenger of Allah, here I am." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take off your cloak, and whatever you used to do in your Hajj, do that in your Umrah."

Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were with him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered ihram," while he was wearing perfume and had on a woollen cloak (jubbah) and a turban. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Take off your turban and your shirt, wash this yellow off yourself, and whatever you would do in your Hajj, do that in your Umrah."

Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "I would love to see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time revelation is coming down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him)." So when we were at al-Ji'ranah, revelation came down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him), and a cloth was placed over him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called me and uncovered the cloth from the face of him (peace and blessings be upon him) for me, and I saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was making a heavy snoring sound and his (peace and blessings be upon him) face was reddened. Before that, a Bedouin had come to him (peace and blessings be upon him), wearing sewn garments and drenched in khaluq (perfume). He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered ihram for Umrah while wearing this, so what do you command me to do?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him no answer until revelation came down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, when that state left him (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Where is the one who asked?" He said: "Here I am." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell me, if I were in ihram for Hajj and you had this on, what would you do?" He said: "I would take off these sewn garments and wash off this khaluq (perfume)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then go, take off these sewn garments, wash off this khaluq, and do in your Umrah what you would do in your Hajj."

Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "I would love to see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when revelation comes down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him)" - and the rest is like the hadith of Amr bin Dinar.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: At al-Ji'ranah a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he was wearing a cloak (jubbah), and his beard and head were dyed yellow. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered ihram, and my state is as you see." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash this yellow off yourself and take off the cloak, and whatever you would do in your Hajj, do that in your Umrah."

Safwan bin Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father, Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him), told him that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came back from Hunayn and distributed its spoils, he passed by al-Ji'ranah. Meanwhile, a Bedouin came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a shirt or a cloak (jubbah), having dyed himself with yellow. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered ihram for Umrah, so what is your view?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him no answer. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew for the revelation, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood by him (peace and blessings be upon him) screening him (peace and blessings be upon him) with his garment. Ya'la bin Munyah said: I would love to see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time revelation is coming down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called me, and I put my head in under the cloth, and I saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was making a heavy snoring sound like a sleeping person. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, called the Bedouin, and ordered him to take off his cloak and his shirt, and said to him: "Wash, put on the waist-wrap (izar) and the upper sheet (rida'), and do in your Umrah what you do in your Hajj."
