Sayyidah Maymunah bint Kardam (may Allah be pleased with her) was riding behind her father (Kardam bin Sufyan al-Thaqafi, may Allah be pleased with him), and she heard her father asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I vowed that I would offer a sacrifice at Buwanah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there an idol there, or a false deity that is worshipped?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fulfil your vow."

Sayyiduna Kardam bin Sufyan al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have vowed to slaughter a small herd of camels at Buwanah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "At an idol?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At one of the gatherings of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance)?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fulfil your vow wherever it may be. O Kardam, there is no vow and no oath in disobedience to Allah."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Kardam bin Sufyan al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) inclined his ear towards him, and he said: Recall the year of the army of Uthran. The narrator said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recognised that army. (He said:) I was in that army, and Tariq bin al-Muraqqa' said: Who will give me a spear in return for a reward? I said: What is its reward? He said: I will marry him to the first daughter born to me. So I gave him my spear and then stayed away from him for some time. Then I learned that a daughter had been born to him and that she had reached maturity, so I said: Send my wife to me. He refused unless there was a dowry (mahr). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What age of women is she equal to?" He said: She has already seen the signs of old age. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is better for you that you neither fall into sin yourself nor make him fall into sin; leave her."
