Sayyiduna Kardam bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I and a cousin of mine, who was called Abu Tha'labah, went out on a hot day. I had shoes and he had none, so he said: Give me your shoes. I said: No, unless you marry your daughter to me. He said: Give me (the shoes); I have married her to you. When we returned, he sent my shoes back to me and said: You have no wife with me. I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave her; there is no good for you in her."
I said: O Messenger of Allah, I have vowed to slaughter a small herd of camels at such-and-such a place. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfil your vow. There is no vow in severing ties of kinship, nor in what a human being does not own."
