Sayyiduna Kardam bin Abi al-Sa'ib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I went out with my father on some business from Madinah towards Makkah, and this was at the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had only just begun to be spoken of in Makkah. He brought us to a man who owned sheep. At midnight a wolf came and carried off a lamb from his sheep. The shepherd jumped up and said: O master of the valley, your neighbour! Then we heard a voice whose speaker we could not see: O wolf, let it go! So the lamb came running back, without even a mark of a wound on it, until it joined the sheep. He said: And this verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in Madinah: "And that there were men from among mankind who sought refuge with men from among the jinn" [Surah al-Jinn: 6], the verse.
