It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf bin Milhah al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting with them. He went into his house and said: "Come in to me, and let no one come in to me except a Qurayshi." I slipped in quietly, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people of Quraysh, is there anyone among you who is not one of you?" They said: O Messenger of Allah, may our fathers and mothers be ransomed for you, we inform you that with us are a sister's son and a freed slave. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The ally of a people is one of them, the freed slave of a people is one of them, and the sister's son of a people is one of them. O people of Quraysh, you are the ones who will hold authority over this matter (the caliphate) after me, so do not die except as believers. Hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah and do not be divided, and do not be like those who became divided and differed after clear proofs had come to them. They were commanded only to worship Allah, sincere to Him in religion, upright, and to establish the prayer and give zakah, and that is the upright religion. O people of Quraysh, keep my regard concerning my Companions, their children and their children's children. May Allah have mercy on the Ansar and the children of the Ansar."

Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf bin Milhah al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were sitting around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his mosque in Madinah when Jibril (peace be upon him) came with revelation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) covered himself with his cloak and remained like that for a long time until that state passed from him and he (peace and blessings be upon him) uncovered his cloak. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was sweating heavily, and there was something in his hand (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was holding tightly. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which of you knows what comes out of the date palm?" The Ansar said: We know, O Messenger of Allah, may our fathers and mothers be ransomed for you. Whatever comes out of the date palm, we recognise it; we are the owners of date palms. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) opened his hand, and in it was a date stone. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is this?" They said: O Messenger of Allah, this is a date stone. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The stone of what?" They said: The stone of one year. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have spoken the truth. Jibril (peace be upon him) came to you to look after your religion. You will surely follow the ways of those before you, as one sandal matches the other, and you will take as they took: if a span, then a span; if a cubit, then a cubit; and if an arm's length, then an arm's length; so much so that if they entered a lizard's hole, you would enter it too. However, the Children of Israel split after Musa (peace be upon him) into seventy sects, all of them astray except one sect, namely Islam and its community. Then they split after Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) into seventy-one sects, all of them astray except one, namely Islam and its community. Then you will split into seventy-two sects, all of them in the Fire except one, namely Islam and its community."

O Ali!" (He (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).) He said: Here I am, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will soon fight the Banu al-Asfar (the Romans), and the believers who come after you will also fight them. Then the choicest Muslims, the people of the Hijaz, will go out against them, striving in the path of Allah, not caring for the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah, until Allah conquers Constantinople and Rumiyyah for them through tasbih and takbir. Allah will bring down its fortress, and they will obtain wealth so great that they never obtained the like of it before, so much so that they will divide (the wealth) by the measure of shields. Then a caller will cry out: O people of Islam, the Masih al-Dajjal has emerged in your lands! So the people will hold back from the wealth: some will take and some will leave, and the one who takes will be regretful and the one who leaves will be regretful. Then they will say: Who is this caller? And they will not know who he is. So they will say: Send a vanguard to Lud; if the Masih (al-Dajjal) has emerged, it will come to you with news of him. So they will go and look but will see nothing, and they will find the people silent. Then they will say: The caller called out only to us, so make a firm resolve, then decide rightly: we will all go out together to Lud; if the Masih al-Dajjal is there, we will fight him until Allah judges between us and him, and He is the best of judges; and if it is otherwise, then these are your own lands, your own clans and your own armies, and you will return to them."
