Abu Hazim relates that the people asked Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): What was the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made of? He said: "There is no one left among the people who knows more about it than I do. It was made of the tamarisk wood of al-Ghabah; so-and-so, the slave of such-and-such a woman, made it. And I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): when he climbed onto it, he faced the qiblah and said the takbir, then recited, then bowed, then stepped down backwards and prostrated, then climbed up, then recited, then bowed, then stepped down backwards, then prostrated."

Abu Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that he heard Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to make peace among Banu Amr bin Awf over a matter that had arisen between them, to the point that they had thrown stones at one another. Meanwhile the time for prayer came, and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was held up (there), so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward to lead the people in prayer. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and began making his way through the rows. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the row next to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), the people began clapping. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a man who would not turn (this way and that) in prayer, but when he heard this he turned and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to him to stay in his place, and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his head towards the sky in gratitude to Allah and walked backwards, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped forward. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed his prayer, he turned to us and said: "O Abu Bakr, what prevented you from staying in place when I gestured to you?" He said: Allah would not have it that the son of Abu Quhafah lead the prayer in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the people and said: "O people, what is the matter with you that when something happens to you in your prayer you begin clapping? Clapping is only for women, and saying tasbih is for men. Whoever has something happen to him during his prayer should say 'Subhan Allah'."

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I was present in the gathering with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a woman came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have given myself to you, so decide about me as you see fit. Then a man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need of her, then marry her to me. The narrator said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then the woman stood up and repeated the same thing. The man said: O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need of her, then marry her to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the man: "Do you have anything you could give her?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and search for something." He went, then came back and said: O Messenger of Allah, I did not find anything. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and search, even if it is only an iron ring." He went, then came back and said: O Messenger of Allah, I did not find anything, not even an iron ring. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know anything of the Qur'an?" He said: Yes, such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go, I have married you to her for what you have of the Qur'an."

Abu Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that the people differed over what the wound of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was treated with on the day of Uhud. So they asked Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him), who was among the last of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to remain in Madinah. He said: "There is no one left among the Muslims who knows more about it than I do. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) was washing the blood from the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was bringing water in his shield. Then a reed mat was taken and burned, and his wound was packed with it."
