حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: ذُكِرَ لِسَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الشُّؤْمُ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنْ كَانَ فِي شَيْءٍ فَهُوَ فِي الْمَرْأَةِ وَالْمَسْكَنِ وَالْفَرَسِ»
Abu Hazim narrates: Bad omen was mentioned in the presence of Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only said: "If bad omen could be in anything, it could be in a woman, a house and a horse."
حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ نِزَارٍ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَوْضِعُ سَوْطٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A place the size of a whip in Paradise is better than the world and all that is in it."
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ، لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ، فَلَمْ يَأْتِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أُقِيمَتْ صَلَاةُ الظُّهْرِ، وَتَقَدَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ وَكَبَّرَ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَرَآهُ النَّاسُ، فَجَعَلُوا يُصَفِّقُونَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ، لِيَفْطِنَ بِدُخُولِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ بِفَرْجِ الصُّفُوفِ خَلْفَهُ، عَرَفَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَ، فَاسْتَأْخَرَ إِلَى الصَّفِّ فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَتَّى قَدَّمَهُ إِلَى مَقَامِهِ، فَثَبَتَ، أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَلِيلًا، ثُمَّ حَمَلَ حَمْلَةً وَاحِدَةً الْقَهْقَرَى، وَدَخَلَ فِي الصَّفِّ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَلِكَ تَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى لَهُمْ حَتَّى قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ: «مَا حَمَلَكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ، أَلَا ثَبَتَّ حِينَ قَدَّمْتُكَ؟» ، قَالَ: قَدْ أَرَدْتُ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ إِنْهُ لَمْ أَرَ أَنَّهُ يَنْبَغِي لِابْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَمَامَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ: «إِذَا نَابَتْكُمْ نَائِبَةٌ، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالتَّسْبِيحِ، فَإِنَّ التَّسْبِيحَ لِلرِّجَالِ، وَالتَّصْفِيقَ لِلنِّسَاءِ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Banu Amr bin Awf to make peace between them in a matter in which they had differed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not arrive (in time) until the Zuhr prayer was established, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward to lead the people in prayer and said the takbir. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in. The people saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) and began clapping to alert Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he would become aware of the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) would not turn around in his prayer. When he sensed the rows opening up behind him, he knew that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had come, so he began to step back towards the row. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand between the shoulders of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and moved him forward, bringing him back to his place. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) remained there for a little while, then stepped back in one go and joined the row. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this, he stepped forward and led them in prayer until he completed the prayer. Then he gave the salam, turned to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu Bakr, what made you do what you did? When I put you forward, why did you not stay firm?" He said: I wanted to do so, but then I did not think it proper for Ibn Abi Quhafah to stand (as imam) in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the people and said: "When something happens to you, say Subhan Allah, for saying Subhan Allah is for men, and clapping is for women."
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي جِئْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَهَبُ لَكَ نَفْسِي، فَصَعَّدَ فِيهَا النَّظَرَ وَصَوَّبَهُ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مَا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ، عَاقِدٌ طَرَفَيْهِ عَلَى عُنُقَهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «أَعِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» ، قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: «فَلَا بُدَّ لَهَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ، فَاذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ» ، فَذَهَبَ فَالْتَمَسَ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا، فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ: لَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» ، فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ: وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ لَمْ أَجِدْهُ، ثُمَّ جَلَسَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» ، فَقَالَ: سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا، فَقَالَ: «قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a woman came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have come to give myself to you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at her from top to bottom, then remained silent. Then a man stood up who had only one garment, which he had tied around his neck, and he said: If you have no need of her, then marry her to me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do you have anything?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She must be given something; go and look." He went and looked but found nothing, so he came back and said: I did not find anything. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Go and look, even if it is an iron ring." He went, then came back and said: I did not even find an iron ring. Then he sat down, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What do you know of the Qur'an?" He said: Such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have married you to her for what you know of the Qur'an."
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ بِبُرْدَةٍ، فَقَالَتْ: عَمِلْتُ هَذِهِ لَكَ بِيَدَيَّ، فَقَبِلَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهَا، وَبِهِ حَاجَةٌ إِلَيْهَا فَاتَّزَرَهَا، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ: اكْسُنِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ: «نَعَمْ» ، فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهَا، قَالَ سَهْلٌ: فَقُلْتُ لِلرَّجُلِ: " قَدْ رَأَيْتَ حَاجَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهَا، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتَهَا؟ فَقَالَ: قَدْ رَأَيْتُ مَا رَأَيْتُمْ، وَلَكِنْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُخَبِّأَهَا حَتَّى أُكَفَّنَ فِيهَا، فَكُفِّنَ فِيهَا "
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a cloak and said: I have made this cloak for you with my own hands. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted it, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was also in need of it, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) wrapped it around himself as a lower garment. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, and one of his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions said: Clothe me with it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the cloak. Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to the man: You saw how much the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) needed it, and still you asked him for it? He said: I saw what all of you saw, but I wanted to keep it stored away so that I could be shrouded in it. The narrator said: So he was shrouded in that very cloak.
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ نَفَرٌ امْتَرَوْا فِي مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مِنْ أَيِّ أَعْوَادٍ هُوَ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ مِنْ أَيِّ عُودٍ هُوَ، وَمَنْ صَنَعَهُ، وَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِي قَامَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَنْ تَأْمُرَ غُلَامًا لَهَا نَجَّارًا، فَصَنَعَ لَهُ أَعْوَادًا يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا، فَصَنَعَ لَهُ مِنْ أَثْلِ الْغَابَةِ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْهُ، أَخْبَرَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَحُمِلَ، فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَكَبَّرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ لِلسُّجُودِ فَسَجَدَ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، فَصَنَعَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ»
Some people came to Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) who had differed about the minbar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): from what wood was it made? He said: I know well from what wood it is made, who made it, and the day on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood upon it. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a woman of the Ansar to instruct a slave of hers who was a carpenter, so he made for him (peace and blessings be upon him) pieces of wood from which to deliver the sermon, and he made them from the athl trees of al-Ghabah. When he had finished it, the woman informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for it, and it was carried (to him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered the sermon to the people from it, then the prayer was established. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir while on the minbar, then bowed upon it, then came down to prostrate and prostrated, then bowed on the minbar again, and he continued doing so until he completed his prayer."
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْفَرْوِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَوْضِعُ سَوْطٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا»

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ الْبُرْجَانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ الْمُقَوِّمُ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ لِلْجَنَّةِ بَابًا يُقَالُ لَهُ الرَّيَّانُ، يُدْعَى لَهُ الصَّائِمُونَ، مَنْ كَانَ مِنَ الصَّائِمِينَ دَخَلَهُ لَمْ يَظْمَأْ أَبَدًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Paradise has a gate called al-Rayyan, through which those who fast will be called. Whoever of those who fast enters through it will never be thirsty."
حَدَّثَنَا طَاهِرُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ قِيرَسَ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: «كَانَتْ فَاطِمَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا يَوْمَ أُصِيبَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، تَحْرِقُ الْحَصِيرَ، تُدَاوِي بِهِ جُرْحَهُ، تُلْصِقُهُ عَلَيْهِ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "On the day the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was wounded, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) would burn a mat and treat his (peace and blessings be upon him) wound with its ashes, sticking it onto the wound."
