Ibn Kharijah said: When the news of the death of the Negus (al-Najashi) reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Your brother has passed away." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, and we formed rows behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), and we prayed, though we could not see anything.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Kharijah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have come to know how to send salam upon you, but how should we send blessings (salah) upon you?" He said: "Say: O Allah, send down blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad, as You sent down blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."

Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once Sayyiduna Zayd bin Kharijah (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking along one of the roads of Madinah when, between Zuhr and Asr, he suddenly fell down dead. He was carried to his family and wrapped in two cloaks and a blanket. When it was the time between Maghrib and Isha, some women of the Ansar gathered around him, wailing, when suddenly they heard a voice from beneath the blanket saying twice: "Be silent, O people!" So they uncovered his face and chest, and he said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, the unlettered Prophet, the Seal of the Prophets; this was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke the truth - the successor (khalifah) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), strong and trustworthy, weak in body but strong in the affair of Allah; this too was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth" - three times - "and the middle one is the servant of Allah, Umar, the Commander of the Believers, who did not fear the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah, and who prevented the people from the strong devouring the weak; this too was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth." Then he said: "Uthman, the Commander of the Believers, will be merciful to the believers. Two have passed and four remain. Then the people will fall into disagreement and there will be no order among them, and the sanctities will be violated - meaning forbidden things will be committed - and the Hour will draw near, and the people will devour one another."

Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Sayyiduna Zayd bin Kharijah (may Allah be pleased with him) died, they waited for Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to come out (for the funeral prayer). I said: "(Meanwhile) let two rak'ahs be prayed." (I began praying) when he removed the cloth from his face and said: "Peace be upon you, peace be upon you." The narrator said: The people of the house were talking, so I said while in prayer: "Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah." Then he said: "Be silent, be silent! Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; this was in the first Book. He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, weak in body, strong in the affair of Allah; this was in the first Book. He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth. Umar bin al-Khattab, strong in body, strong in the affair of Allah; this was in the first Book. He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth. Uthman bin Affan: two (years) have passed and four remain, and the sanctities have been violated. The well of Aris! And what is the well of Aris! Peace be upon you, O Abdullah bin Rawahah! Did you sense Kharijah and Sa'd for me?" Sharik said: These two, Kharijah and Sa'd, were his father and his brother.
