Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once Sayyiduna Zayd bin Kharijah (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking along one of the roads of Madinah when, between Zuhr and Asr, he suddenly fell down dead. He was carried to his family and wrapped in two cloaks and a blanket. When it was the time between Maghrib and Isha, some women of the Ansar gathered around him, wailing, when suddenly they heard a voice from beneath the blanket saying twice: "Be silent, O people!" So they uncovered his face and chest, and he said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, the unlettered Prophet, the Seal of the Prophets; this was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke the truth - the successor (khalifah) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), strong and trustworthy, weak in body but strong in the affair of Allah; this too was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth" - three times - "and the middle one is the servant of Allah, Umar, the Commander of the Believers, who did not fear the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah, and who prevented the people from the strong devouring the weak; this too was in the first Book." Then it was made to be spoken on his tongue: "He spoke the truth, he spoke the truth, he spoke the truth." Then he said: "Uthman, the Commander of the Believers, will be merciful to the believers. Two have passed and four remain. Then the people will fall into disagreement and there will be no order among them, and the sanctities will be violated - meaning forbidden things will be committed - and the Hour will draw near, and the people will devour one another."
