حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، يَقُولُ: «أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ زَيْدُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ»
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr said: "Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi's name is Zayd bin al-Nu'man."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعُسْفَانَ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَهُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ، فَقَالُوا: قَدْ كَانُوا عَلَى حَالٍ لَوْ أَصَبْنَا غِرَّتَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَأْتِي عَلَيْهِمُ الْآنَ صَلَاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ، قَالَ: فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ {وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ} [النساء: ١٠٢] ، قَالَ: «فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَخَذُوا السِّلَاحَ، فَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَرَفَعْنَا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّفِّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ، فَلَمَّا سَجَدُوا وَقَامُوا، جَلَسَ الْآخَرُونَ، فَسَجَدُوا فِي مَكَانِهِمْ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَجَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، فَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَرَفَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّفِّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسُوا جَلَسَ الْآخَرُونَ فَسَجَدُوا، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، فَصَلَّاهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً بِعُسْفَانَ وَمَرَّةً فِي أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ»
Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Usfan, and the idolaters came out to face us, commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid, and they were between us and the qiblah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer, and they (the idolaters) said: "If only we could have attacked them while they were off guard." Then they said: "Now a prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their children and their own selves." The narrator said: Then, between Zuhr and Asr, Jibril (peace be upon him) came down with this verse: "And when you are among them and lead them in prayer" [al-Nisa: 102]. The narrator said: Then the time of prayer came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them orders, so they took up their weapons, and we formed two rows behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed and we all bowed, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and we all raised ours. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated with the row next to him, while the other row remained standing, guarding them. When these had finished prostrating and stood up, the other row sat and prostrated in their place. Then these moved forward into the place of the others, and those came into the place of these. Then all of them bowed, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and all of them raised theirs. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated with the row next to him while the other row remained standing, guarding. When these sat, the other row also sat and prostrated. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them the salam and departed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered this prayer twice: once at Usfan and once in the land of Banu Sulaym.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا غُنْدَرٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ مَصَافَّ الْعَدُوِّ بِعُسْفَانَ وَعَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ: إِنَّ لَهُمْ صَلَاةً هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَبْنَائِهِمْ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَفَّهُمْ صَفَّيْنِ خَلْفَهُ، فَرَكَعَ بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَمِيعًا، فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونَ، فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ مِنَ السُّجُودِ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ لِرُكُوعِهِمْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ تَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الْمُقَدَّمُ وَتَقَدَّمَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ، فَقَامَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِي مَقَامِ صَاحِبِهِ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونَ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا مِنْ سُجُودِهِمْ سَجَدَ الْآخَرُونُ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ "
It is narrated from Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was drawn up in ranks facing the enemy at Usfan, and the idolaters were commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in Zuhr, and the idolaters said: "Now a prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their wealth and their children." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in this prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged them in two rows behind him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had them all bow together. When they raised their heads, the near row prostrated while the other row remained standing. When these had raised their heads from prostration, the rear row prostrated with him (peace and blessings be upon him) for their bowing. Then the front row moved back and the rear row moved forward, and each stood in the place of the other. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed while the others remained standing. When these had finished their prostration, the other row prostrated. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them the salam.
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ عِيسَى الْكُوفِيِّ، ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ جَبْرٍ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ، قَالَ: غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَقِيَهِ الْمُشْرِكُونَ بِعُسْفَانَ وَعَلَى خَيْلِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَحَضَرَتْنَا صَلَاةُ الظُّهْرِ، فَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ، فَهَمَّ الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَنْ يَحْمِلُوا عَلَيْنَا، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: إِنَّهَا سَتَحْضُرُهُمْ صَلَاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَوْلَادِهِمْ، يَعْنُونَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ، فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِالْآيَاتِ الَّتِي فِيهَا صَلَاةُ الْخَوْفِ، «فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ وَأَقَامَ، فَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ، وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِمَّا يَلِي الْقِبْلَةَ، فَرَكَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَكَعْنَا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، وَقَامَ الْمُؤَخَّرُ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا مِنْ سُجُودِهِمْ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ، فَتَلَاوَمَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ» قَالَ أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ: «فَصَلَّى بِنَا فِي أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ أَيْضًا مِثْلَهَا»
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went on a campaign with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the idolaters met him (peace and blessings be upon him) at Usfan, and that day their cavalry was commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid. The time of the Zuhr prayer came, so the mu'adhdhin called the adhan and gave the iqamah for the prayer. The idolaters intended to attack us, then some of them said: "Now a prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their children" - they meant the Asr prayer. So Jibril (peace be upon him) came with the verses about the prayer of fear. Then, when the time of prayer came, the mu'adhdhin called the adhan and gave the iqamah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped forward and we formed two rows behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), and that day the idolaters were on the side of the qiblah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed and we bowed too, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated and the near row prostrated too, while the rear row remained standing. When these had finished their prostration, the rear row prostrated. So the idolaters began to blame one another. Abu Ayyash said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the same way in the land of Banu Sulaym as well.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ صَدَقَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ خُلَيٍّ الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْعَوْصِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ يَعْنِي عَلِيَّ بْنَ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «فِي صَلَاةِ الْخَوْفِ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ رَفَعُوا جَمِيعًا فَسَجَدَ بَعْضُهُمْ مَعَهُ وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونَ، فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ تَأَخَّرُوا وَجَاءَ الْآخَرُونَ، فَسَجَدُوا بَعْضُهُمْ مَعَهُ، وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونُ فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ تَأَخَّرُوا وَجَاءَ الْآخَرُونَ فَسَجَدُوا مَكَانَهُمْ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى الثَّانِيَةَ مِثْلَ الْأُولَى، ثُمَّ جَلَسَ وَجَلَسَ مَنْ يَلِيهِ وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ يَلِيهِ ثُمَّ قَامُوا وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَسَجَدُوا مَكَانَهُمْ ثُمَّ سَلَّمُوا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in the prayer of fear. All of them bowed, then all of them raised their heads. Then some of them prostrated with him (peace and blessings be upon him) while the rest remained standing. When they raised their heads, these moved back and the others came forward. Some of them prostrated with him (peace and blessings be upon him) while the rest remained standing. When they raised their heads, these moved back and the others came forward, and they prostrated in their place. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the second rak'ah like the first. Then he sat, and those near him (peace and blessings be upon him) also sat while the rest remained standing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the salam and those near him (peace and blessings be upon him) also gave the salam. Then they stood up, and those who had remained behind prostrated in their place, then they gave the salam.
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، قَالَ: «صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ بِعُسْفَانَ» ، وَعَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ: قَدْ كَانُوا عَلَى حَالٍ لَوْ أَصَبْنَا غِرَّتَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَأْتِي عَلَيْهِمُ الْآنَ صَلَاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَوْلَادِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ، فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِالْآيَاتِ الَّتِي فِيهَا صَلَاةُ الْخَوْفِ، «فَصَفَّ أَصْحَابَهُ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ، فَكَبَّرَ وَكَبَّرْنَا جَمِيعًا، وَرَكَعَ وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا، وَسَجَدَ وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، فَلَمَّا قَامَ تَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ، وَتَقَدَّمَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ، فَقَامَ مَقَامَهُمْ، فَرَكَعَ وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا، وَرَفَعَ وَرَفَعْنَا جَمِيعًا، وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer at Usfan, while the idolaters were commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid. The idolaters said: "If only we could have attacked them suddenly." Then they said: "Now a prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their children and their own selves." So Jibril (peace be upon him) came down with the verses about the prayer of fear. He (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged the Companions in two rows behind him, then said the takbir and we all said the takbir; he bowed and we all bowed; and he prostrated and the near row prostrated. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, the near row moved back and stood in the place of the rear row, and the rear row moved forward and stood in their place. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed and we all bowed, then he raised his head and we all raised ours, and the near row prostrated. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat, the rear row prostrated.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُسَيْدٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعُسْفَانَ، فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ صَلَاةُ الظُّهْرِ، وَعَلَى خَيْلِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ الظُّهْرَ، فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ: إِنَّ لَهُمْ صَلَاةً بَعْدَ هَذِهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ يَعْنُونَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ، فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ وَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ} [النساء: ١٠٢] إِلَى آخِرِهَا، «فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَصَفَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْحَابَهُ صَفَّيْنِ، وَعَلَيْهِمُ السِّلَاحُ، وَالْعَدُوُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِّ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَبَّرُوا جَمِيعًا وَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ، وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَامَ إِلَى الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ، وَسَجَدَ الْآخَرُونَ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَتَأَخَّرَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ الرَّكْعَةَ الْأُخْرَى، فَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَالْآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا سَجَدَ هَؤُلَاءِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» قَالَ أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ: «فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً بِعُسْفَانَ وَمَرَّةً بِأَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ»
Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Usfan when the time of the Zuhr prayer came, and the cavalry of the idolaters was commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led his Companions in the Zuhr prayer, and the idolaters said: "After this they have another prayer that is dearer to them than their children, their wealth and their own selves" - they meant the Asr prayer. So, between Zuhr and Asr, Jibril (peace be upon him) came down to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and this verse was revealed: "And when you are among them and lead them in prayer" [al-Nisa: 102] to its end. Then the time of prayer came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged the Companions in two rows, and they had their weapons with them, and the enemy was in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). All of them said the takbir and all of them bowed. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, and the near row prostrated too, while the other row remained standing, guarding. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished, he stood up for the second rak'ah, and the others prostrated. Then these moved forward into the row of those, and those moved back into the row of these. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the other rak'ah: all of them bowed, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated and the near row prostrated too, while the other row remained standing, guarding. When these had finished, those prostrated. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the salam. Abu Ayyash said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered this prayer twice: once at Usfan and once in the land of Banu Sulaym.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ كَرَامَةَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، قَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعُسْفَانَ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ وَعَلَيْهِمْ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ: لَقَدْ كَانُوا عَلَى حَالٍ لَوْ أَرَدْنَا لَأَصَبْنَا مِنْهُمْ غَفَلَةً، ولَأَصَبْنَا مِنْهُمْ غِرَّةً، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فِي شَأْنِ الصَّلَاةِ، فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer at Usfan. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, the idolaters, who were commanded by Khalid bin al-Walid, said: "They were in such a state that, had we wished, we could have caught them heedless and unawares and harmed them." So between Zuhr and Asr this verse was revealed concerning the prayer. Then the narrator related a hadith similar to it.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، قَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer; then he related the same hadith that has preceded.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوعَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، كَانَتْ لَهُ كَعِتْقِ رَقَبَةٍ مِنْ وَلَدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَكُتِبَ لَهُ عَشَرُ حَسَنَاتٍ، وَحُطَّ عَنْهُ عَشَرُ سَيِّئَاتٍ، وَرُفِعَ لَهُ عَشَرُ دَرَجَاتٍ، وَكَانَ فِي حِرْزٍ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ، فَإِنْ قَالَهَا إِذَا أَمْسَى كَانَ لَهُ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ» قَالَ: فَرَأَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبَا عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ أَخْبَرَنَا عَنْكَ بِكَذَا وَكَذَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «صَدَقَ أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things,' it will be for him like freeing a slave from the descendants of Isma'il (peace be upon him); ten good deeds are written for him, ten sins are wiped away from him, he is raised ten degrees, and he is protected from Satan until evening. And if he says it in the evening, he will have the like of that." The narrator said: A man saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi has told us such and such from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Ayyash has spoken the truth."
