Mundhir bin Jarir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him): We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the early part of the day when some people from the Bedouins came, barefoot and unclothed, wrapped in striped woollen cloaks, carrying swords and wearing cloaks. I said (to myself): Most of them, rather all of them, are from the tribe of Mudar. I saw that the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed when he saw their condition. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and went inside, then he ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the call to prayer (adhan) and the iqamah. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, led the Zuhr prayer, and delivered a sermon: "O people, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul" [Surah al-Nisa: 1]. He recited this verse until he reached His words: "And let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow" [Surah al-Hashr: 18]. "Let a man give charity from his dirham, let a man give charity from his dinar, from his sa' of dates, from his sa' of barley, from this and from that," until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned half a date. Then a man came with a bundle which his palm could barely hold, or which it could not hold at all. The narrator said: Then the people followed one after another, until I saw two heaps of food and clothing, and I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shining with joy as if it were gilded with gold. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever introduces a good and righteous practice in Islam will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being reduced from their rewards. And whoever introduces an evil practice in Islam will bear its sin and the sin of those who act upon it after him until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being reduced from their sins."

Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during part of the day when some people came, most of them, rather all of them, from the tribe of Mudar, dressed in tattered clothes, with swords hanging from their shoulders. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) change when he saw their poverty. Then he said: "O Bilal, hasten the prayer." When he had finished the prayer, he sat down for a while, praised and glorified Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and then said: "Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and (fear severing) the ties of kinship. Indeed, Allah is ever watchful over you" [Surah al-Nisa: 1]. "May Allah have mercy on a man who gives charity from his dinar, his dirham and his sa' of dates," until he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought charity down to half a date. Among those who stood up was a man from the Ansar who had a bundle which his palm could barely hold, rather it could not hold it, and he did not even know whether it was gold or silver. Then the people followed one after another until they had gathered two large heaps of food and clothing. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shining with joy as if it were gilded with gold. When the charity was finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever from my Ummah introduces a good practice, and it is acted upon after him, will have its reward and the like of the reward of those who follow his practice, without anything being reduced from their rewards. And whoever introduces an evil practice in Islam, and it is acted upon after him, will bear its sin and the like of the sins of those who follow his practice, without anything being reduced from their sins."

Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when some people came to him wrapped in striped woollen cloaks, with swords hanging from their shoulders. They had no lower garments, nor anything other than those (cloaks). Most of them, rather all of them, were from the tribe of Mudar. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw their hardship, nakedness and hunger, his face (peace and blessings be upon him) changed, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) went into his house. Then he came to the mosque and prayed Zuhr, then he climbed a small pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and then said: "To proceed: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has revealed in His Book: 'O people, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul' [Surah al-Nisa: 1] to the end of the verse, and 'O you who believe, fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow' [Surah al-Hashr: 18] up to His words: 'They are the successful ones' [Surah al-Hashr: 20]. Give charity before you are no longer able to give charity. Let a man give charity from his dinar, let a man give charity from his dirham, let a man give charity from his wheat, let a man give charity from his dates, from his barley. Do not consider any charity insignificant, even if it is only half a date." Then a man from the Ansar stood up with a bundle in his palm, and he handed it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was on the pulpit. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took it, and joy became visible on his face. Then he said: "Whoever introduces a good practice and it is acted upon will have its reward and the like of the reward of those who act upon it, without anything being reduced from their rewards. And whoever introduces an evil practice and it is acted upon will bear its sin and the sin of those who act upon it after him, without anything being reduced from their sins." Then the people stood up and dispersed; one had a dinar and another a dirham. Then it was all gathered together, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed it among them.
