Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and we came upon a well with little water. (The narrator Sulayman said: Dhammah means having little water.) So six of us went down, I being the sixth, or seven, I being the seventh, to draw out water. (The narrator Sulayman said: Mahah are those who draw out water.) Then we lowered a bucket, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated at the edge of the well, and we filled it to half, or he said: close to two-thirds. Then I raised it up to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the bucket was returned into it (the well) along with the water that was in it. Al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then I saw one of us being pulled out by means of a garment for fear of drowning. Then it (the well) flowed forth (with water) - or he said: sank - and this wording is from the narration of al-Muqri'.
