Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people from the Ansar said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): Ask for the hand of Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). So he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What does the son of Abu Talib need?" He said: O Messenger of Allah! I have been thinking of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marhaban (welcome), and ahlan (you are as family)," and said nothing more than that. Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) went out, and that same group of the Ansar was waiting for him. They asked: What happened? He said: I do not know, except that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Marhaban (welcome), and ahlan (you are as family)." They said: This is enough for you from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); even one of the two (would have been enough), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you both 'ahl' and 'marhab'. Then later, after he (peace and blessings be upon him) had married him to her, he said: "O Ali! A wedding feast (walimah) is a must for the bride." Sa'd said: I have a ram. And a group of the Ansar gathered some sa's of sorghum for him. Then, when it was the night of the wedding (consummation), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do anything until you meet me." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, performed ablution with it, then poured it over Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Allahumma barik fihima wa barik lahuma fi bina'ihima (O Allah, bless them both, and bless them in their union)."

When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his prayer and turned around, he faced us in a state of anger and called out in a voice that even the young maidens could hear from within their curtains, and said: "O you who have accepted Islam but faith has not yet entered your hearts! Do not find fault with the Muslims, and do not seek out their faults, for whoever pursues the fault of his Muslim brother, Allah tears away his cover and exposes his fault, even if he is inside his own house."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sanctity of the women of the mujahidin over those who stay behind is like (the sanctity of) their own mothers. And whoever among those who stay behind takes the place of one of the mujahidin among his family and betrays him concerning them, he will be made to stand before him (the mujahid) on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to him: 'This man betrayed you concerning your family, so take from his deeds whatever you wish.'"
