Yazid bin al-Bara' narrates from his father, Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We were sitting waiting for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Eid al-Adha. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came, greeted the people with salam and said: "The first rite of this day of yours is the prayer." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped forward and led the people in two rak'ahs of prayer, then he concluded with salam and turned his face towards the people. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) was given a bow or a staff, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) leaned on it. Then he praised and extolled Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and gave them commands and prohibitions.
