It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so intensely angry over what had happened in the matter of Banu Ka'b that I had not seen him (peace and blessings be upon him) so angry for a long time before that." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah not help me if I do not help Banu Ka'b." He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said (to me): "Tell Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) to get ready and prepare for this expedition."
The narrator said: Then the two of them came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her: In which direction does the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intend to go? She replied: "I have seen him (peace and blessings be upon him) so intensely angry over the matter of Banu Ka'b that I had not seen him (peace and blessings be upon him) so angry for a long time."

The narrator Muhammad in this chain is in fact Ibn Zabalah, who is extremely da'if (weak).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah as a conqueror, he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted safety to all the people except four individuals.
In the narration of Imam al-Bayhaqi's Dala'il al-Nubuwwah, Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted safety to everyone except four people: Abd al-Uzza bin Khatal, Miqyas bin Subabah, Abdullah bin Sa'd and Umm Sarah. As for Abd al-Uzza bin Khatal, he was killed while holding on to the coverings of the Ka'bah. The narrator said: A man of the Ansar had vowed that he would kill Abdullah bin Sa'd wherever he saw him. He was the foster brother of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Uthman brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to intercede for him and obtain protection for him. When that Ansari saw him, he gripped his sword firmly and advanced, but he found him sitting in the gathering of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So the Ansari Companion hesitated and disliked attacking him out of respect for the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Finally the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stretched out his blessed hand and accepted his pledge of allegiance. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to that Ansari Companion: "I was waiting for you to fulfil your vow." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was overawed by you. Would that you had signalled to me with your eye!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not befitting for a prophet to make secret signals with the eyes." The narrator said: As for Miqyas bin Subabah, he had a brother who was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and was killed by mistake. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man of Banu Fihr with him to collect the blood money from the Ansar. When that Fihri had collected the blood money and fell asleep on the way back, Miqyas attacked him, crushed his head with a stone and killed him, and then he began reciting these verses: "This slain man, who lay on the ground with the blood of his neck veins staining his two garments, has brought my soul relief; before his killing, the sorrows of my soul would overwhelm me and rob me of my sleep; in return for him I killed a Fihri, and I made the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar, the masters of the fortress of Fari', pay his blood money; through him I fulfilled my vow and took my revenge, and I am the first to return to the idols." As for Umm Sarah, she was a freed slave woman of Quraysh. She came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained to him of her poverty and need, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her something. Then a man came to her and sent a letter with her to the people of Makkah. After this, the narrator mentioned the story of Hatib bin Abi Balta'ah (may Allah be pleased with him), as it is in the original text.
In the narration of Imam al-Harith, Abu Salamah al-Khuza'i said that Ibn Khatal's name was Abdullah. He had two singing slave girls who used to sing songs satirising the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted safety to all the people except Ibn Khatal, his two slave girls, Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh and Miqyas bin Subabah al-Laythi. So all of them were killed except one of the slave girls, for she later accepted Islam.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Abbad bin Ja'far, in mursal form, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Quraysh: "After praise (of Allah): if you disown your alliance with Banu Bakr or pay the blood money for (the slain of) Khuza'ah (that is better); otherwise, I declare war on you." At this Qurazah bin Abd Amr bin Nawfal bin Abd Manaf, the father-in-law of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), said: "Banu Bakr are an ill-omened people. We will not pay the blood money for those they have killed; (if we did,) we would be left with 'neither hair nor wool', not a trace of wealth or goods. Nor will we disown our alliance with them, for no one but them remains upon our religion. Rather, we give him notice of war."
This report is mursal (with a missing link), and its chain is sahih (authentic).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Makkah on the tenth of the blessed month of Ramadan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted and the people fasted too, until, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached al-Kadid, he broke his fast. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) encamped at Marr al-Zahran with a mighty army of ten thousand, among whom were a thousand fighters from the tribe of Muzaynah and seven hundred from Banu Sulaym. Meanwhile, no news of the Muslims' movements was reaching Quraysh, and they did not know what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended. That night Abu Sufyan bin Harb, Hakim bin Hizam and Budayl bin Warqa' al-Khuza'i went out to seek news. Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had settled at his halting place, I thought (with great concern): "Alas for the morning of Quraysh! By Allah, if the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) enters Makkah by force, Quraysh will be destroyed forever." So I mounted the white mule of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and went as far as al-Arak, in the hope of finding some woodcutter, milkman or person with some need who would go to Makkah and inform them of the coming of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so that they would come out to him (before any fighting) and seek safety. Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, I was going along for this very purpose when suddenly I heard the voices of Abu Sufyan and Budayl bin Warqa', who were arguing with each other. Abu Sufyan was saying: "By Allah, I have never seen so many fires and so large an army as tonight." Budayl said: "By Allah, this is the tribe of Khuza'ah, whom war has stirred up." Abu Sufyan replied: "Khuza'ah are not of such standing that these could be their fires." Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I called out: "O Abu Hanzalah!" Abu Sufyan recognised my voice and said: "Abu al-Fadl?" I said: "Yes." He said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you, what news?" I said: "By Allah, here is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), arrived with his great army. Alas for Quraysh!" Abu Sufyan asked in alarm: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you, what way is there to escape now?" I said: "By Allah, if he (peace and blessings be upon him) gets hold of you, he will strike off your head. So ride behind me on this mule." So he mounted and his two companions went back. I set off with him, and whenever I passed by one of the Muslims' fires (camps), they would ask: "Who is this?" But when they saw the mule of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with his uncle on it, they would say: "This is the mule of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and his uncle is riding it," until I passed by the fire of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked: "Who is this?" and came towards me. When he saw Abu Sufyan on the back of the mule, he recognised him and cried out: "By Allah, this is the enemy of Allah, Abu Sufyan! Praise be to Allah, who has put you in our power without any covenant or pledge." Then he ran quickly towards the tent of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I spurred on the mule and got there before him, just as a slow animal outpaces a slow man. I jumped off the mule and went in to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came in right behind and said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is the enemy of Allah, Abu Sufyan. Allah has put him in our hands without any agreement, so allow me to strike off his head." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have granted him protection." Then I sat down beside him (peace and blessings be upon him), held his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed head and said: "Tonight no one but me will speak confidentially to him (peace and blessings be upon him) about this man." When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) persisted, I said: "Steady, O Umar! By Allah, if he were a man of Banu Adi, you would not say this, but you know he is from Banu Abd Manaf." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "O Abbas! Do not say such a thing. By Allah, when you accepted Islam, your accepting Islam was dearer to me than my father al-Khattab's accepting Islam (had he done so), because I knew that your accepting Islam was dearer to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than al-Khattab's accepting Islam." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas! Take him to your camp and bring him to me in the morning." In the morning, when I brought him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and said: "O Abu Sufyan! Has the time not yet come for you to know that there is no true god but Allah?" Abu Sufyan said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you! How forbearing, how generous and how kind to kin you are, and how great is your pardon! By Allah, the thought has kept coming to my mind that if there were any god besides Allah, he would surely have been of use to me today." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan! Has the time not yet come for you to know that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you! How forbearing, generous and kind to kin you are! But about this (messengership) there is still some misgiving in my heart." Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to him: "Woe to you! Before your head is struck off, accept Islam and bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." So he recited the testimony of faith. Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan is a man who loves honour and distinction, so grant him some special privilege." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well. Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe, and whoever shuts the door of his house is also safe." When he was about to turn back to inform the people of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas! Hold him back at the narrow part of the valley near the peak of the mountain, so that the armies of Allah pass before him." I held him back where he (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered. The tribes began to pass by under their banners. Whenever a tribe passed, Abu Sufyan would ask: "Who are these?" I would say: "Banu Sulaym." He would say: "What have I to do with Banu Sulaym?" Then another tribe would pass and he would ask: "Who are these?" I would say: "The tribe of Muzaynah." He would say: "What have I to do with Muzaynah?" until the green battalion (al-Katibah al-Khadra') of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed, in which were the Muhajirun and the Ansar, and because of their armour only their eyes could be seen. Abu Sufyan asked in amazement: "Who are these people?" I said: "This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) amid the Muhajirun and the Ansar." Abu Sufyan exclaimed: "No one has the power to face these. By Allah, the kingdom of your nephew has become mighty today." I said: "O Abu Sufyan! This is not kingship; rather, it is prophethood." He said: "Yes! Then that is fine." I said: "Now hurry to your people and save them." So he reached Makkah and began shouting at the top of his voice: "O people of Quraysh! Here is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), come with an army that you cannot resist, so whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe." His wife Hind bint Utbah stood up, seized him by his moustache and said: "Kill this stinking leather bag! What a wretched vanguard he has proved for his people!" Abu Sufyan said: "People! Do not let this woman deceive you. Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe." The people said: "May Allah destroy you! Of how much use will your house be to us?" He said: "And whoever shuts the door of his house is also safe."
This hadith is sahih (authentic). Ma'mar, Ibn Uyaynah and Imam Malik narrated part of it from al-Zuhri in connection with the story of the fast, which the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) and others recorded. Imam Ahmad narrated part of it from the hadith of Ibn Ishaq. Imam Abu Dawud narrated part of the story of Abu Sufyan in a very abridged form. None of the six Imams, nor Imam Ahmad, narrated it with all of this detail. Imam al-Dhuhli transmitted it in full in al-Zuhriyyat through Abu Idris from Muhammad bin Ishaq, but in it Ibn Ishaq does not explicitly state that he heard it from al-Zuhri, whereas the wording presented here is very good.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, the accursed Iblis let out an extremely loud shriek. Hearing it, all his offspring (his devilish followers) gathered around him, and he said to them: "Now give up all hope that after this day of yours you will ever turn the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) back to shirk (associating partners with Allah). However, spread among them, that is, in Makkah, wailing (over the dead) and (indecent) poetry."
[Takhrij: Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad (4302); al-Hakim declared it sahih in al-Mustadrak (2/460), and al-Albani also declared its chain sahih in Irwa' al-Ghalil (2012).]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We entered Makkah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and inside the House (of Allah) or around it there were three hundred and sixty idols that were worshipped besides Allah Almighty. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order (to topple them), and they were all thrown down on their faces. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited (this verse of the Qur'an): "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is ever bound to vanish." [Surah al-Isra': 81] Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went inside the Ka'bah and prayed two rak'ahs there. There he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw images (statues) of Sayyiduna Ibrahim, Sayyiduna Isma'il and Sayyiduna Ishaq (peace be upon them), and (the polytheists) had placed in the hand of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) divining arrows, by which they sought to learn their fortunes. Seeing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah destroy them! Ibrahim (peace be upon him) never sought omens with divining arrows." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for saffron and smeared it over those images (so that their features would be effaced).
Its chain is hasan (good).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended (to march on) Makkah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to some of his Companions (and informed them) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was heading for Makkah. Among them was Hatib bin Abi Balta'ah (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile, it had spread among the general public that he (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go to Hunayn. Hatib (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to the people of Makkah saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to march on them. At this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me and Abu Marthad (may Allah be pleased with him) (in pursuit of it)." Then the narrator mentioned the whole story of the letter being recovered from that woman at Rawdat Khakh, and in this narration it is also related that Habib bin Abi Thabit said: That woman took the letter out from the front of her body (the place of her private parts) and handed it over.
Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad. The narration is originally also found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, while the detail about where the woman hid the letter is also mentioned in other routes.
