It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Hurayth (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both), who was a young boy at the time and was playing with something that he was selling (as trade), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication for him: 'Allahumma barik lahu fi tijaratih' (O Allah, bless him in his trade).
Ibn Numayr narrated something similar from Fitr.
Its chain is hasan (good) on the condition of Imam Abu Dawud.
With this same chain the opening part of this hadith has been narrated, but it does not contain the words that I have quoted here.
Imam Abu Ya'la transmitted something similar from Abu Sa'id, from Abdullah bin Dawud, from Fitr, with the alternative wording: May Allah Almighty bless him in his selling - or he said: "bless him in his deal (transaction)."

It is narrated from Imam Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man brought sugar to Madinah (for trade), but the market for it was slow (that is, it could not be sold for lack of demand). So the people advised him: "Go to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both)." So he went to him, and he bought all the goods from him at "dah wa azdah" (that is, at the rate of eleven for every ten, a very profitable and generous price), and then said (to the people at large): "Whoever wishes may take (from it free of charge)." The (seller) man asked (in surprise): "May I also take (some) along with them?" He said: "Yes, you too may take."
The chain of this report is sahih (authentic), and it is an example of the generosity and munificence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both), on account of which he was held proverbial for generosity and nobility.
