It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan" [Surah al-Baqarah: 245], Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, does Allah Almighty really ask a loan of us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, O Abu al-Dahdah." He said: "Give me your blessed hand," so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his blessed hand to him, and he said: "Indeed, I have lent my orchard to my Lord as a loan" - and that orchard of his contained six hundred date palms. Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) set off from there until he reached his orchard, where Sayyidah Umm al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with her) was present with her children. He called out: "O Umm al-Dahdah!" She replied: "Here I am." He said: "Come out of this orchard, for I have lent it to my Lord as a loan."
The narrator named Humayd is weak.
