Ma'bad al-Juhani narrates about Yazid bin Amirah al-Saksaki that he was a student of Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator mentioned the hadith and said: Then Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, and Yazid came to Kufah. He came to the gathering of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), but he was not there, and the people began discussing faith among themselves. Some of them said: "If I were to bear witness that I am a believer, then I would also bear witness that I am of the people of Paradise." Yazid said: "I bear witness that I am a believer, but I do not bear witness that I am of the people of Paradise." Meanwhile Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and was informed of this matter. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Yazid: "Is it so?" He replied: "Yes." He asked: "Where did you learn this?" Yazid said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! Allah Almighty says: 'Indeed, those who have believed, and those who became Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians, and the Magians, and those who associated partners (with Allah)' [Surah al-Hajj: 17]. So, O Abu Abd al-Rahman, to which of these groups do you belong?" He said: "To those who have believed." Yazid said: "Yes, that is true." Then Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Yazid: "By Allah, were you a student of Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied: "Yes." Then Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, Mu'adh was an exemplary leader (ummah), most devoutly obedient to Allah, and upright (hanif), and he was not of those who associate partners (with Allah)."
His companions said: "(But in the Qur'an it is that) Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was an exemplary leader, devoutly obedient to Allah [Surah al-Nahl: 120]." Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Indeed, Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) too was an exemplary leader, most devoutly obedient to Allah, and upright (hanif)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the noble presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "My mother is obliged to free a believing slave, and I have a black non-Arab slave woman." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring her to me." So the man brought her, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "Do you bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah?" She said: "Yes." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" She said: "Yes." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Free her."
Takhrij and grading: Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah recorded this narration in his Musnad; there is criticism in its chain because of the memory of Muhammad bin Abi Layla, but the origin of this hadith is found in Sahih Muslim [hadith: 537], which strengthens it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Razin al-Uqayli (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "You and I shall most certainly drink (in Paradise) milk whose colour and state will never have changed." I said: (O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!) How will Allah Almighty bring the dead back to life? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you not passed by drought-stricken, barren land that is completely desolate, then passed by it and found it green and flourishing, then passed by it and found it dry and barren again, and then passed by it and found it green and luxuriant?" I said: Yes, it is exactly so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Likewise will be the raising up (on the Day of Resurrection)." I said: How can I know that I am a (true) believer? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever of this Ummah, or he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: of my Ummah, does a good deed and is firmly certain that it is a good deed and that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will give him the best reward for it, or commits an evil deed and is certain that Allah Almighty will punish him for that evil or forgive him, such a person is a believer."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad; its chain contains Sulayman bin Musa, about whom there is criticism, but there are supporting narrations for it in other reliable books of hadith.
