Abdullah bin Iyas bin Abi Fatimah narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated when he suddenly asked (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which of you would like never to be afflicted by any illness?" We all hastened to say: O Messenger of Allah, we (would like that). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Would you like to be like stubborn, roaming donkeys?" As he said this, the expression on the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed, until we saw signs of displeasure on his (peace and blessings be upon him) face. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Would you not like to be people of trials and of expiations (for sins)?" The Companions said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! The believer is indeed tested with trials, and that is because of his honour and esteem with Allah Almighty; and he is kept in affliction until he attains with Allah Almighty that lofty rank and station which he could not have attained without trial. So Allah Almighty brings him (through the trial) to that very rank."
Muhammad bin Abi Humayd is a da'if (weak) narrator.
Imam Abu Bakr also narrated something similar from Mus'ab bin al-Miqdam, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Abi Humayd.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a daughter who is such and such," and she mentioned her beauty and loveliness, then said: "I offer her to you (peace and blessings be upon him)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have accepted her." The woman kept on praising her until she even mentioned that the girl had never had a headache and had never complained of any illness. On hearing this he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have no need of your daughter."
Imam Abu Ya'la also recorded it and said: Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this hadith to us.

It is narrated from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) that a very bulky Bedouin of large build came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "When did you last have a fever?" He said: I do not even know it (that is, I have never had one). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "And what about headache?" He said: I do not know what that is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you ever suffered any loss or decrease in your wealth and property?" He replied: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you ever been struck by grief over your children?" He said: No. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah Almighty hates the 'ifrit nifrit (that is, such a cunning, defiant, healthy and robust person) who is never struck by grief over his children and who never suffers any loss in his wealth."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad, and its chain is of the hasan (good) grade. The term 'ifrit nifrit mentioned in the hadith refers to a person who is physically very strong and successful in worldly terms, but who, because he is spared trials, has become heedless of the remembrance of Allah and arrogant; for the hardships that befall a believer are a means of raising his ranks and forgiving his sins.
