It is narrated from al-Musayyib bin Rafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "It used to be said that a man's losing his eyesight (the light of his eyes) is exactly like (a great loss as) being struck in his own life, that is, losing his life."
This saying makes clear the extraordinary importance of human eyesight among the early generations (salaf) and the intensity of the grief and pain felt at its loss.

Hadith Takhrij«حکم الحدیث المطالب العالیہ محققاً تنسیق د. سعد بن ناصر بن عبد العزيز الشَّثري- مکتبہ شاملہ :إسناده صحيح » «انفرد به المصنف من هذا الطريق»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: When I take back the two most beloved and precious things of one of My servants (that is, his two eyes), I am not pleased with any reward for him less than Paradise." (Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) I said: O Messenger of Allah! Will he receive this same reward even if it is only one eye? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, even if it is only one eye (this great reward is still his)."
Al-Bukhari recorded it from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) through another route, but the words "even if it is only one eye" and everything after them are not in it; this addition is munkar (severely weak), and moreover the narrator in its chain, Sa'id bin Sulaym, is weak.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: When I take the two most precious and beloved things of a servant of Mine (that is, his two eyes) and he is patient (over this trial) and hopes for the reward of the Hereafter, I am not pleased with any reward for him less than Paradise."
Ibn Hibban declared it sahih, and al-Tabarani also recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat through another chain by way of Hushaym.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, your Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, has said: When I take the two beloved and precious things of a servant of Mine (that is, his two eyes) while he loves them dearly and grieves at their loss, I am not pleased with any recompense for him in exchange for them less than Paradise, provided that he praises Me for this trial."
Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded this hadith in his Musnad, and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); moreover, its origin is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim from Sayyiduna Anas and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both).
